For our swanky 50’s/60’s local reception, our venue included three shot glass desserts so we opted for a small cake. For vintage vibe, did chose vanilla cake with Bavarian chocolate crème filling (and one layer baked apples which was so good!!!). Bought polka dot ribbon from Michaels that the baker used on the cake.

I've also heard of what you mention with the tiers, and nothing wrong with sheet cake! Cake tastes good irrespective of the shape, after all, and your flavour choice sounds amaaazing! And yuum Italian pastries and coffee! I heartily approve, haha!

Oh that sounds so delicious. And ugh, isn't it weird how you think something would be fairly easy to get only to find out it's almost impossible? Like why should a square cake be more expensive than a round one? Square cake tins are a thing!

Awww, so cute! And the baked apples sound to die for - I love fruit desserts so I'm just sitting here wanting a baked apple now, lol.

We each ate a bite out of the same doughnut lol!

As far as pie flavors, we had peach, cherry, fresh strawberry, pecan, and chocolate (we did mini pies so people could try more than one if they wanted or have a pie and a doughnut)

Here is the inspiration picture for the decorations except that it will have off-white marzipan as the icing instead of buttercream. Our cake is just one layer so imagine the lower ring of berries and rosemary on the cake plate.

Here is the inside of our tasting cake. It is vanilla sponge with two layers of Bavarian cream and raspberry jam, topped with a layer of rolled marzipan as the icing. Yum! It is a variation of Swedish Princess Cake (without the whipped cream) that is made by the bakery I worked at for 7 years.

I just tasted my cupcakes this weekend! We are going with a vanilla cake with lemon buttercream - it will be either a 2 or 3 tier cake. Very simple design. We also would like chocolate and vanilla checkered with buttercream. I am not sure if we would use this as a bottom tier? Or a separate cake due to the difference in buttercream flavors - it probably wouldn't have a good flow.

I am getting the bakers recommendation this week - but I was so excited that my fiance, myself and my 11 year old all choose the lemon!
