Cake: barn wedding in summer

My dreams of a buttercream tiered cake are crushed as they say it'll melt. The barn has a/c unit but it's only mildly cool. What did you do for for wedding cake in summer? Share tips!!! Thoughts. I hear one couple's cake fell over at this venue.... but they did wait until end of night.

Is it possible to have your baker sneak in during dinner to set up your cake so it's not sitting out for an extended period of time? We're going to have to refrigerate some of our cupcake flavors until around dinner time so the cream cheese frosting or fruit fillings don't sit out for too long.

When are you having your wedding? Also is there a specific spot they display it? Do you want an entirely covered buttercream cake or would a nake cake be something you would be willing to do? Also does the venue have a variety of stands you could get a wedding cake and just have each tier on a stand. Another thought if your open to it just one tier for you and either cupcakes decorated similarly to your tiered cake.
Sorry if that is to many ideas thrown at you.

You could have a fondant cake with a layer of butter cream underneath so then it wont melt
