Buying vases vs renting from decorator

neeners, on November 21, 2015 at 10:44 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

Just curious if anyone has already compared the costs of buying small vases to be used for centerpieces (think very basic and generic) versus renting them from a decor company you are already using? We plan to use a decorator for our backdrop, lighting, and chairs. We've just reached out to decorators for consultations so not sure how to compare prices yet. And just wondering with Black Friday coming up, since we can probably snag a great deal on vases, but not sure if they are a minimal cost from a decorator if you are already using them for other things. Any insight is helpful!

We're buying them. Think about this, it's the end of the wedding and the rental company needs the vases back. What do you do with the flowers?

I didn't want to rent anything. It's common in my area for guests to take centerpieces home.

We are purchasing the vases. At the end of the reception, we are donating them to our church.

I bought mine used from another bride on the fb group. It was cheaper than renting and I can resell them if I want to.

Thanks everyone! We were leaning towards buying them, so now I feel better about that!

I second Susan's recommendation of Dollar Tree--you can order in bulk from them online, and they have a good selection of pretty nice glass vases, all $1 each. I used them for candle holders and vases for my centerpieces and was satisfied with the quality.

I agree with Dollar Tree if you want very basic vases. We purchased our from Michael's and then returned them after the wedding. They have a very good return policy. We purchased them within 2 months of our wedding. If you choose this option and plan to use real candles you will need to make sure all wax is removed before attempting to return them.

If you get plain ones you can jazz them up a bit by adding ribbons or lace or whatever. We added 2 inch lace around a bunch of votives and tied a navy blue ribbon around it with 2 little fake rings attached. Everyone thought they were cute. Repeated it minus the rings on the candy buffet jars with bigger lace and ribbon.

We are getting ours from dollar tree too. I'll likely resell them for $.50 after so they come to the same price as renting (or cheaper).

Check Walmart for vases too. Some of the smaller ones I've seen for less than a dollar there (and they were identical to the ones at Dollar Tree).

I saw colored glass vases for $2.99 at Krogers (also known as Smith's in other areas...). I think it depends on rental costs in your area vs whether you want to deal with lots of vases after the wedding. Reselling stuff is a hassle.
