Buffets - how many options?

FH and I haven't nailed down a caterer yet but FH would like to do buffet style. How many different proteins and sides should we pick out? We want the food to be plentiful without there being a lot left.

We are doing 2 starters, 3 entrees, and 2 sides for our buffet. Our venue assured us that they will have plenty of food to go around. We just had our tasting yesterday so I am really excited!

Our venue and catering team is pretty awesome. We have a plated vegetarian meal option, and then we are having a buffet. This will include soup and salad (served) 2 entrées, 1 carving station, 1 potato or rice dish, 1 vegetable side, and a pasta dish.

I'm sure the caterers you contact will have sample menus for you. I would say a MINIMUM of 2 protein options and 2 sides plus a salad.

I love buffets. I actually had plated but I do really enjoy the buffets I go to. The only things I don't like about them is that sometimes people take huge helpings of the carbs (I might actually be guilty of that occasionally) so sometimes they run low and then I am sad.

FYI I live outside Boston and I'm likely doing a buffet. I'm super excited about it because my venue rocks. We aren't all snobs in Boston. Smiley smile

LOL this thread kills me! OP were doing a buffet with tilapia francaise, breaded chicken with brucetta and flank steak with a mushroom gravy. Additionally we'll have passed hor d'oeves (not even attempting to spell that right) as well as a shrimp cocktail tray and crudite. Salad, penne vodka, Mashed potatoes and seasonal veggies on the side.
