Buffets - how many options?

FH and I haven't nailed down a caterer yet but FH would like to do buffet style. How many different proteins and sides should we pick out? We want the food to be plentiful without there being a lot left.

While this has been riveting. I must depart for slumber. Whilst some are blessed with good pedigree like kweenkaren, I have to work in the morn. Parting is such sweet sorrow!

Our caterer only allows the choice of 2 proteins and 4 sides plus salad and bread.

Karen would never stoop so low as to be a queen. No. She's a goddess. An angel. An ethereal being that doesn't poop.

If I beat you at this "game" will you shut up?

The food and alcohol alone will cost more at my wedding than what you told people your whole wedding costs.

    I win. Go away.

OP, I am sure your buffet will be delicious. I, personally, would choose a chicken based entree, a beef, a fish/seafood, and a vegetarian. If you cannot do all of that, for what ever reason, then land and sea. Also all the sides. A green veggie, a starch... more starches...... a salad haha, sides are my favorite.

    ETA words.

LOL $30k in Boston? That's not ghetto at all. Smiley winking I chose a buffet so my guests could have choices and eat to their heart's content. And drink top shelf all night. So, yeah. Also I know you hid it but I own my own home and am not, nor have never been on welfare. Just sayin.

@Karen. Me thinks you lie. You said you had 20 people RSVP no out of 30 invites sent out.

You are being a horrible person and saying horrible things and then lying to

Cover your ass. You aren't better than anyone on here and saying they don't have a good job because someone works weekends?!?!? Guess you've never seen a doctor on a Saturday.

@Kendra exactly! Medical staff work weekend rotations, I should know and it's just normal for us, but apparently only people with bad jobs work weekends. SMH.

@Honeylife it was the first thing that popped into my mind. There are so many important people who we rely on that work weekends.

@OriginalLaura, of course! His dad's last name is Midas! We have money 4 lyf. In fact we're doing a buffet... Caviar, lobster, gold flaked desserts. We're hiring sushi chefs from Japan to make the sushi right there in the buffet line.

Ostricher, ugh just kidding. A buffet? Your wedding sounds super ghetto. It might be less ghetto if people could chose their own live lobster? Do you think you could not be cheap and swing that?

@therightlane, sounds like a horrible life too. Saving peoples lives, living (more than) comfortably, working on Saturdays.

Also, OP - to answer your question.

    We're doing:

    Carving Station with beef tenderloin

Pasta Station with 3 sauce options, veggies, and chicken or shrimp.

2 entrees: chicken parmesan, or vegetarian spinach lasagna rolls

    Sauteed Asparagus & Tomato

    Caesar Salad & Garlic Bread

The beef tenderloin is probably overkill, but FH really wanted it and our guestlist is smaller so we could swing it. You'd be fine with 2 entrees and a station of some sort with a meat option.

We're doing the salads and garlic bread served tableside before people get called up to the buffet. It was only $1 extra per person and will go a LONG way to making sure nobody is left feeling hangry waiting for their table to be called up.

    We're having:

Carving station with garlic encrusted prime rib and rack of lamb with jalapeño mint jelly

Seafood station with Alaskan king crab legs, salmon, and jumbo shrimp cocktail

A gourmet salad station with a assortment of toppings and cheeses

A lobster macaroni and cheese bar served with bacon, chives, peppers, etc

Assorted sides that complement the proteins - veggies, potatoes, rice, dinner rolls, etc

    But you know, that's "ghetto."
