Buffet vs Sit down Reception

Liz, on July 14, 2017 at 11:35 AM Posted in Planning 0 64

What type of reception is everyone having? we decided on a buffet after originally planning a sit down dinner. My parents weren't too thrilled. they are both the same cost but I like the simplicity of a buffet bc everyone can get what they want to eat & however much they want . Any thoughts?

Buffet. Gives everyone different options to pick from instead of being forced into something they might not want

We are doing a buffet cause it's easier and we have more options. Why are your parents not thrilled? Are they paying for it?

I'm doing buffet because it was a little cheaper and I liked the food options better

I love buffets. Unfortunately my venue only does plated meals.

My parents think a sit down dinner is nicer & classier. i just think a buffet is easier all around

We are buffet all the way. We love having multiple options and for all the reasons you mentioned. I know one thing we are adding is salads will be "family style" at the tables instead of at the buffet, Smiley smile

I do not like buffets or waiting in lines to be served. I prefer sit down meals and think they are more elegant.

I've been to weddings with both! I feel like the sit-down meals feel slightly more formal, but with buffets guests get a lot more food. At least in my experience!

Not sure yet how much they are contributing but we are planning on paying for a good part - my FH & I

We're doing buffet too. I like that guests will have the option to pick and choose their foods and portions

I'm doing buffet. Anytime I've been to a reception that is plated the food was not that great. All the buffet ones have been really good, plus I liked the options.

I'm glad to hear so many people like buffets! We are doing buffet with a roast beef carving station. I love buffets in general cause I can choose my own portions and FH felt pretty strongly about preferring buffet to plated. It was cheaper overall, so I'm 100% into it.

@LissyLoo, great point about not having to collect meal options!

@LissyLoo. .... the RSVP with meal choices was giving me a headache too which is one of three reasons we went with a buffet.... besides we are inviting children to the wedding... about 20 are expected... so we have to add the# of children to RSVPs and their ages. it would've all been too much with a sit down

The sit down meal was actually less expensive at our venue and we did not want people to have to stand in line for food. plus the venue gave us three options for our guests to choose from as well as an additional option to accomodate any dietary needs so the option was super easy for us lol

Our cocktail hour is more buffet style though!

We're doing stations and buffet, that way if people want every damn thing we have to offer, they can take it. Oh and seconds if they want.

Every time I've been to a plated wedding I've felt like I spend too much time sitting and waiting.

We're also going buffet. It ended up being cheaper and doing a plated dinner would not work well for our venue. Plus then the guests can choose what and how much they want to eat. I think it just works out better in everyones favor.

We're doing a sit down plated. The buffet at my venue actually didn't have many options. We wanted stations, but would have costed about $3000 more.
