Buffet vs Sit down Reception

what type of reception is everyone having? we decided on a buffet after originally planning a sit down dinner. My parents weren't too thrilled. they are both the same cost but I like the simplicity of a buffet bc everyone can get what they want to eat & however much they want . Any thoughts?

Wanted plated but was gonna do buffet for budgetary reasons, but mom said plated and she'll cover the difference

We're doing plated. I think it's more elegant and then No one has to stand in line or try to navigate with a plate full of food. (My nightmare would be tripping with a plate full of food and spilling it everywhere!)

We did stations (3 in total with 2 choices at each and heavy snacks during cocktail hour) and it was great. more choice, slightly cheaper, and a more casual vibe.

ETA i'm vegetarian as is my family and many of my friends so the extra choices also allowed for more variety and more choice for folks with restrictions.

We had a buffet. I don't mind them as long as there aren't a lot of guests. A guest list of 100-200 people? Do plated. Under 100 (we'll under 100)? Buffet is fine.

We're doing buffet as well. There are so many different dietary needs just for our immediate family alone so we decided the best thing to do is to give everyone a good variety of choices.

I prefer sit down but also like the option to choose serving size and variety of foods. Our venue only offers family style so I feel like this is a nice in-between.

Fiancée and I were at odds with this. I wanted buffet, for all the reasons previously mentioned, and she wanted plated because it was classy and might stay warmer and more fresh. Well, after talking to some vendors, buffet actually seems better because of the options, price, and amount people can get. They also said it tends to stay warmer than plated because of how it's served. I think buffet is really catching on.

I hate waiting in lines I'm very impatient. I am doing sit down never considered buffet but as long as it's smooth and fast I say go for it.

ETA: just saw its the same cost. I would do a plated dinner then

Originally wanted a buffet too, but turns out with the bar package I wanted, a plated dinner was exactly the same price.

Also, buffets are easier for RSVP. We have had to chase people down who said yes they would come but never gave us a food order, or their guest's name. With buffets, orders and guest names are less relevant.

We did plated at H's preference, but I was happy with it. Yes, it was a little extra work collecting meal choices and doing seating cards color coordinated, but it wasn't ridiculously extra.

Buffets always make me worry about other people touching food before me. And then some tables will get served a lot later than others depending on how many tables you have and how quickly the buffet line moves.

I prefer plated unless it is a small, casual wedding. too much waiting in line.

We are doing a buffet. Our caterer is setting up two serving lines with the same choices in each. I am hoping that makes the lines move quicker.

I'm not doing dinner at all. I'm doing heavy, and I mean heavy, hors d'oeuvres. There will be an abundance of fresh food all night. I decided this would feel more casual and people can eat when they want or graze all night if they choose. It in no way is saving me money but I just really love the idea.

Sit down! My guests will be having a 3 course sit down dinner and multiple options to choose from. Cocktail hour will have tons of stations for them to have even more variety as well. I don't want my guests waiting in line and having to walk across the venue with their meal. Personally, I just find a sit down more formal.

I think the majority of our guests prefer sit down over buffet because they don't want to go get up to pick their own food and carry it back and wait in line.

I'm doing buffet. I'm thinking 2 rectangular tables with the same options so that we can have a line going down both sides of both tables. We are only having 100 guests so that leaves 25/line which I feel like will move pretty quickly.

Ive been at wedding where they had s buffet and people had to wait awhile to eat since there are so many people to go through. Lots of left over wasted food as well at the end. I personally prefer the plated meal.

I never had a plated meal at a wedding that didn't taste like it had been prepared hours ago and kept warm. And yes it may appear more formal but the last thing I want my wedding to be is formal!
