Buffet versus Heavy Hors D'oeuvres

Hey all! We're doing our tasting with our venue next month and we keep flipflopping between doing a full buffet meal or several food stations (like mac and cheese and sandwich building), as well as tray passed hors d'oeuvres. We're having our ceremony at 1pm with the reception ending at 6pm. This makes it kind of between meals so I'm a little unsure if we should go for the full meal or not. There isn't much of a price difference between the two options, which is why I need help and you ladies always have the best advice!

I would do a buffet with maybe a

Cheese and fruit table for cocktail hour if your having a cocktail hour.

Sounds like you all love the stations idea! My fiance will be happy as he has his heart set on them, but I wanted to run it by this lovely group to make sure it wasn't tacky before committing.

I'm also a fan of Hors. Smiley winking

We're doing stations too! It's really so much fun to pick out all the different options. Fondue bar (chef attended) has me so excited. Cheeeeeeese!

I am loving the food stations idea. I think it's great for people who like me love to go to restaurants and just get an assortment of appetizers versus a standard meal. I think that would be so much fun too!

I LOVE food stations!! They can be more expensive but they're so much fun. And they're just as filling as a regular meal. Also, if your ceremony starts at 1, then it would be between 1:30-2:00 at the absolute earliest when people would start eating, which I really don't think is a meal time. Just my two cents on that part.

    Now I'm hungry.

I prefer finger foods. That would be my choice! And I love when there are stations.

The venue does the stations for an hour at a time, so I'm thinking start with two at the same time and then overlap a third to start a little before the first two are broken down. And then do some tray passed stuff halfway through the third station being out? I still have a lot of time to pin down our exact plan though Smiley smile

    My two new faves that I'm seeing;

Man Cave Station; a giant hero sandwich (like 8 feet....) sliced into 1" pieces, chicken wings, guac and chips, pizza, fries and a keg.

Bacon station; Bacon fried to order to make sliders, bacon wrapped scallops, bacon mashed potatoes, and bacon bourbon

Originally I would say buffet but after seeing all of the options plus the 20 passes apps I would say go with that, much more variety and it all looks delicious

I would do the buffet. Guests will definitely appreciate it, and if there isn't much of a cost difference you might as well get your money's worth.

I love stations! You get a lot of variety that way. Just make sure they're filling enough and that you have a lot of options.

I would prefer stations, especially in the afternoon. I'm not an eat a big plate of food all at once type of person. Prefer to eat little bits at a time.

I've always wanted to go to a stations wedding! Do people just walk around with their plates and eat standing like a cocktail hour or what? I think it would be really cool and unique if it's done well. Just make sure that all the options together are filling.

Either way it sounds like people won't leave hungry. For me, I hate the awkward standing with half a small plate or napkin of food. While trying to hold a glass of wine. I would much rather sit. But if you do tables that adds cost too-rentals, linens and center pieces.
