Buffet versus Heavy Hors D'oeuvres

Hey all! We're doing our tasting with our venue next month and we keep flipflopping between doing a full buffet meal or several food stations (like mac and cheese and sandwich building), as well as tray passed hors d'oeuvres. We're having our ceremony at 1pm with the reception ending at 6pm. This makes it kind of between meals so I'm a little unsure if we should go for the full meal or not. There isn't much of a price difference between the two options, which is why I need help and you ladies always have the best advice!

Since your reception goes until 6pm I would have a couple stations at the beginning like your last comment, passed apps in the middle, and one or two stations from 5-6pm, since people will be getting hungry again around that time. Maybe like one sweet station, one savory for the end of the reception.

I read this post as "mac and cheese sandwich building" and that's all I care about right now.

@soon2bemrs2017 Station style is set up similiar to a buffet - there's still chairs and tables, you get up to get your food, and then you sit back down. It's a bit more casual but I wouldn't recommend skipping seating entirely... that's just awkward and messy.

Mine's a DW - I'm having it at a beach in South Carolina where I was born and raised! No fondue for you. Jk. Smiley smile

Good choice for a venue! It's pretty there!

If it's dollar for dollar the same price, then it's really just a personal choice of what kind of vibe you want your wedding to have.

My preference would be a buffet, but to be honest, the only "cocktail/app" reception I've been to looked like a buffet with the carving stations (I believe it was three difference meats), the multiple sides, and the apps that were passed.

    Damn! Oh well ;P

And I am so excited to get married at Arrowhead, the views are so gorgeous. I'm hoping for some snow for the pictures. But it'll look amazing with just the fall colors too!

Ever since I heard of a mashed potato bar, I've wanted one. In my house. Every day. You can't lose either way if the meal is filling enough, and you're right, stations are pretty fun for guests, and an activity all in themselves.

P.S. I've just convinced myself to have stations because of this. Thanks!
