Buffet Salad options..ideas please!

FMS, the barefoot wife!, on May 12, 2010 at 1:33 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

Hello lovely ladies! I need help with my salad options, originally I was going to have:

Garden Salad with a homemade vinagrette

Coleslaw

and replicate a recipe for cold asian noodle salad (has a sweet and spicy sauce/dressing)

But I think the first two or kinda boring and over done, Any one have some ideas for yummy salads that can be served buffet style? I have some yummy ones but they're more for plated style (if it was buffet, all the toppers/add ons would fall to the bottom and no one would get all the ingredients) Any help is appreciated!

How about a 7 layer salad. This is what FH really wants us to serve.

A garden salad is boring if you make it boring. My friends love my salad. I only have to say I'm making a dish that people typically serve salad with and they're in their car before I can hang up the phone. You could either mix it all up or just prepare the ingredients and let people add what they want. Sort of like a salad bar but if you don't have a lot of space you probably want to go ahead and mix it. And offer some interesting salad dressing choices. Here's what my salads typically consist of:

    green leaf lettuce

    romaine lettuce

    cucumber

    tomato

    red onion

    red bell pepper

    yellow bell pepper

    boiled egg

shredded cheese (4 cheese mexican blend)

    strawberries

    mandarin oranges

    pineapple (sometimes)

    Craisins

    honey crusted pecans

You just have to make it pretty! Color is key

    sliced (in half) red grapes

    candied walnuts

    Craisins

I LOVE Raspberry Walnut, raspberry hazelnut and raspberry pecan. Yumm! Newman's creamy italian is also a favorite. It's hard to find though.

I didn't even know that they made a raspberry hazelnut OR pecan! See, why'd you have to get me started?

I currently have a hazelnut at home. It's very good. They're all very similar though. FH's current favorite is poppyseed. He's gotten to the point where he almost won't eat a salad at a restaurant b/c they don't have poppyseed lol.

I went to a wedding that had a buffet style caesar salad with the dressing separate and it was fabulous! It was the best thing I remember about that wedding.
