Buffet - Dinner Menu Cards or Poster?

Happily Ever Mrs. H, on August 1, 2018 at 11:07 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 18

For those of you who went with a buffet for your reception, how did you go about telling you guests what food you were having served? In your opinion, do you think menu printout for each guest is necessary? I am torn because I know they'll just go to waste, but I'm afraid that if I got a big sign printed, not everyone would see and/or read it.

You could do one per table. That way it's not so much waste and it increases the likelihood that they see it.

If we do a buffet, we will do a sign in front of the buffet. If we do plated, we will do individual menus at every table setting.

I don’t think I’ve ever gotten a menu card or even seen a large print out of what’s being served for any wedding I’ve been to with a buffet. I agree with PP, a small sign at each table could work. I think you’d be fine without anything though!

That's a good idea, although, I have round tables and I'm not sure how that would work because my centerpieces and large.

We are either doing a sign with all the options before the buffet. I think a menu card would be a waste of money & paper.

Me either. All the weddings I've attended had dinner options and name cards w/ symbols of what they picked.

That' what I'm thinking! I've already come across questions from guests when I clearly have the information written on my wedding website. Plain and simple, people don't read.

We thought menus for the table were a waste. Our DOC told us not to do a menu/sign at the buffet because it will slow people down while they read it and slow the whole line down.

We are having a served buffet, so the server will tell you what it is, and you can ask if its vegan or not etc. before they put it on your plate.

On our wedding website we have an FAQ section and theres a part that says

"We didn't see a meal option on the RSVP, what's for dinner?" and we answered that we were having good ole southern BBQ with all of the fixins from a popular local smoke house/restaurant.

So if people check our website (which I hope they do) they'll know whats for dinner but with a buffet as long as you have options for everyone and every diet (vegan/vegetarian) I don't feel the need to explain what we are having. You'll see when you go through the line.

I think I am planning on a menu chalkboard sign by the buffet table. I am having a very small reception, only about 50 people and have a very small budget. I think more people will read the menu off the sign while they are getting their food.

I have our menu on our wedding website also. Your DOC brings up a good point, I guess it's either one per table or none at all.

Me neither - once I get up there I know what I am having. Menu cards seem like a waste of paper to be honest.

A large sign should be fine! Save money on the printed per-person menu unless you really want it. We really wanted them for our wedding, but only had 15 guests so it didn’t cost much. For our local reception, guests RSVP’d ahead of time with their selection so having a menu seemed redundant—we skipped it.

We are having a BBQ buffet as well and will use a sign for the menu in front of the serving tables. We will have vegetarians and meat eaters so they will be able to choose what kind of meal they want. I think personal menus would be a waist and since we have a limited budget, any little “extra” is out.

I've seen just a cute small chalkboard sign at the beginning of the buffet line.

No menu cards or sign is needed. People will be able to see what is being served and if they have questions, the servers should be able answer them.

My DOC recommended having menus at each table so I ordered 2 for each table. Hopefully that will prevent the bottleneck at the buffett.

We are doing individual menus for each guest. We are having Indian food and many (if not all) of my guest have never had Indian food before. We listed the dish and then underneath it explained what it was. This will allow the guest to review whats for dinner and decide what they would like to try and what they want to skip.
