Buffalo, ny Venue revising to change my wedding date to 2021

Private User, on June 3, 2020 at 12:19 PM Posted in New York Planning 0 3

Good afternoon,

My wedding is currently scheduled for 9/5/2020 in Buffalo, NY. We want to change our date to next year and just have a small close family intimate wedding in our backyard this year due to COVID-19. Our venue is giving us a really hard time and is stating they will only give us a 5 week notice from our September date if they need to reschedule. Very stressful as we have a guest list of 250 and we are worried for the health and safety of everyone. I also heard you may have to cut your wedding guest list down which will be very difficult to do and chose. I wish our venue would be more understanding specially with all the money and effort that goes into it all. 5 weeks is not a lot of time to even replan which they will have no spots for us till 2022 as our venue indicated that as we get closer to our wedding in September they barely have enough spots as it is. Even if we have been proactive in getting the date moved. My fiancé father is 83 and we are very afraid of all our older loved ones getting sick also. I really expected our venue to be really great when we booked two years ago. And they have really let us down. It seems they are more interested in getting money. Is anyone else running into the issue of being given a 5 weeks notice and no option to change to next year?

Unfortunately, that's starting to sound very familiar. I'm sorry.

Is there any way to "shadow plan" the backup? That way you have it ready to go if you need it?

Thank Rebecca for your comment. And the venue will not give us anything they will only give us a 5 week notice which is stressful alone. We have asked a few times to please give us a 2021 date and they will not budge. This is not the way I ever thought our big day would go. I am really unhappy with our venue.

This does sound fairly consistent with what I know other couples have heard from their venues. Since things could be fairly open in September (or not 🤷‍♀️) - they'll wait until they have clear governmental guidelines for your specific wedding date.

What additional costs would you incur if you decided to reschedule right now?
