Brunch wedding to dj or not

christine, on October 13, 2016 at 11:42 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

So we are having a Sunday brunch reception next fall and I have been on the fence on if a dj is necessary. It will be a relatively short reception from 12-3 and happy hour drinks. If I don't have a dj do I have to hire someone to announce is in or even a string quartet

A string quartet might be a really lovely idea, but it would have a very different feel than a DJ and certainly cost more - is budget an issue? I would strongly encourage you to have someone - who isn't family or friend - in charge of announcements and to keep the day flowing. I never want to tell anyone "no one will dance," but considering the time of day and length of reception, I wouldn't be counting on it.

I just went to a brunch wedding with a DJ and it was a waste. At that time of day people were really more into eating, drinking, and talking. However, he was also obnoxious and they kept the lighting way up. Maybe if it had been dimmer and he wasn't playing heavy club mix on volume 11 people would have been more into it.

I think you can get away with having a playlist and speakers hooked up to an iPod. However you might want to ask a friend or family member that has a good announcer voice if you want to be announced. Also, check out vitamin string quartet. They cover popular songs and they have thousands of them!

I'm having a brunch wedding and I am skipping a DJ, I'll have a friend in charge of iPod and playlist and we will rent speakers.

Hire a professional. What happens if there's a technical malfunction, will friends know how to handle that? That's what pros are for.

I wouldn't do it. My fiancé and I had an engagement brunch bash and it was 4 hours but I swear, time flew by! You and your guests wouldn't have time to really enjoy it.

We had a DJ and MC for our brunch wedding. People danced the entire time.
