Brother can't attend wedding

tiffany, on July 16, 2017 at 12:42 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

I am 31 and my brother is 18 and very special to me. He graduated high school in June and just left for army basic training 5 days ago. We were told the day before he left that he would not be able to attend my wedding. I am so very upset about this and cry every time I really think about it. They did say that since it will be a Saturday that he will be able to watch it if we live stream. I was wondering if any of you will be doing this? I really don't know anything at all about Skype or live streaming. Any tips or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

How does he know what he will be allowed to do in March of next year? Would that not depend on what job training he takes after basic?

I made a private Facebook group and only added my grandparents and aunts that couldn't make the trip. My cousin had my phone and went live at the ceremony so they could watch it

Agree with Muriel, I wouldn't count on an any reliable answer until about ten days from the wedding. Have a back up plan, but things generally change a whole whole lot at this point in his training.

He was assigned his job before he even left for basic and will be training for it for 42 weeks after basic. His recruiter personally told me he wouldn't be able to go. I of course will hold out hope that something will change and he can be there but i wanna be prepared for him not to be.

Live stream can be a pain... at lest weddings I've watched live stream..., especially when internet cuts out or there are problems. I'd definitely consider a videographer if I were you. I'm having our wedding videoed for my FH dad who won't be at the wedding, and of course for us and the memories Smiley smile just my opinion. Very sorry... I know it's sad when someone special can't be there physically at your wedding.

Luckily, they are not actually assigned jobs before boot camp. Recruiters often say this, but they aren't. Just wait it out before getting too upset.

I thought about live streaming for my brother, but I'm concerned that he wouldn't be able to watch anyway. He left a week ago on his fourth deployment. I understand your sadness.

It's normally basic and then A school. When you join the military, you get yoir rate, which sets you up for your schooling so there is every possibility he will already have his school assignment location already. Facebook live is ok but there is Skype also. Good luck girly.

If it's just for your brother, what about FaceTime/video chat? We had a VIP that we weren't sure was going to make it for health reasons and we had a cousin all set to FaceTime the ceremony/entrance and first dance. Thankfully we didn't have to go this route but we had it in place. Fingers crossed your brother can make it.

I did this for my family who couldn't come - including my brother who was planning on coming, but had some serious life issues two weeks before the wedding. My sister in law and brother called my mom in tears (sil) when they found out so she could tell me. It sucks, but at least he can watch.

Thank you for his time and service. He's on a huge stressful adventure to save our country. Thank him for THAT.
