Bridesmaids with hats?

I'm having the bridesmaids choose their own dresses and the wedding (ceremony) will be outside barring bad weather.

I'm open to their ideas, after all I'm not wearing it, but I feel like this is a tough look to pull off. It'll make it harder for them to find dresses and do their hair.

Has anyone ever seen this done well?

ETA: my MOH wants to buy everyone's hats so it wouldn't be an extra expense for others. And from what they described they mean like...little hats?

Jo RIGHT? NO ONE rocks a pillbox quite like Fifi. Smiley smile

I think the hats *COULD* look good if you're going for a retro look. The dresses my girls wore would have been great with pill box hats...but not all of my girls look good/are comfortable in hats.

that's really what needs to be considered. How do the other girls feel about it? Does it match the dress? How do the other girls LOOK in them?

Keep it simple would be my plan. If your MOH REALLY wants to wear one to be distinctive, have at it. But I wouldn't make the others wear them.

I think it would look very random and out of place unless you are having an overall vintage theme. I'm confused as to why she would even feel comfortable suggesting this? It one thing when the bride uses the bridesmaids as props but the bridesmaid trying to do it? Why?

Oh lord! This is a terrible idea. Can you show those in your fam who are pro-hat this thread? Unless your having a 60s themed wedding, no to the hats.

You have to wear certain dresses to pull that off. Unique-vintage.com or modcloth.com for some ideas

That's a very hard look for most people to pull off. If I was one of your other bridesmaids, I would be pissed and look ridiculous in a hat like that. I think this is a time when you can say "It's my wedding and we're not going to do that."

I like the unanimity here. That makes it easier.

Hats are a lovely remembrance of the 40s, 50s, and 60s . Perhaps you are going for a "kitchy" themed wedding?

Also, no I haven't spoken about it to other bridesmaids because I don't want to scare them away.

It is fine if you like hate, even if you want to wear one. I just wouldnt make my bridesmaids wear one.

Broke the no hats news to my MOH today. Not as bad as I thought.

I wore one for my bridal shower but that's a little different than a wedding! I feel like this could be a really unique cute idea but not every girl likes hats so it may be hard to do for a whole bridal party!
