Bridesmaids with hats?

Muffinbutton, on November 23, 2016 at 10:01 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 50

My mother and MOH are really stuck on this idea of the bridesmaids wearing pillbox hats.

I'm having the bridesmaids choose their own dresses and the wedding (ceremony) will be outside barring bad weather.

I'm open to their ideas, after all I'm not wearing it, but I feel like this is a tough look to pull off. It'll make it harder for them to find dresses and do their hair.

Has anyone ever seen this done well?

ETA: my MOH wants to buy everyone's hats so it wouldn't be an extra expense for others. And from what they described they mean like...little hats?

They aren't Princess Diana or Fifi Abdo.

    So- no.

I would not be into that idea if I were a bridesmaid. I don't look good in hats, and in general I think it's a look that's hard to pull off outside of Pinterest. I'd say no!

Never seen it done before, but I imagine it would look extremely silly.

I hate hats and they can mess you your hair.

They keep trying to sell me with, " but you love hats" and I do, winter hats and baseball caps. And I want to be flexible, but I think this might be too far.

This is like the gloves question. The last time I saw hats at a wedding was 1991. That's when hats were big, and I mean big, and floppy. There are pictures around to prove it somewhere.

Pillbox hats only look good if you have big hair (think Jackie O). Do you want to do that to your BMs?

I hate wearing hats so if I was a BM I wouldn't be thrilled. So... no. Please try and talk them out of this if you want them to still want them to be friends with you after this lol

I love hats. I wore one for my wedding.

That being said...it honestly depends on the look you're going for.

Pillbox hats are a very specific look, and won't look right with many traditional BM dresses.

I would say if your MOH can pull it off, and it looks good with her dress, let her wear it, but I wouldn't make all of them wear it. some people don't like hats, or they aren't flattering on others...

It's a no for me. Doesn't seem to fit the overall theme of your day.

I could maybe get behind wearing hats to a tea. In England. With the queen. but this is a wedding

Yas- I love mini top hats- and fedoras- neither of which I would make a BM wear- they are most certainly NOT for everyone.

Although. like I said- if you're Fifi- go for it.

    heart eyes.

Many bridesmaid dresses are bad enough, please don't add to this by making them wear hats.

I would not be happy if someone made me wear a hat in their wedding. I hate hats (because my head is huge and they usually look funny) except for winter hats.

This is a good estimation of a pillbox hat:
