Bridesmaids not buying dress

Kathryn, on March 17, 2016 at 4:50 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 40

So only 2 of my bridesmaids have bought their dress. The other two haven yet. My wedding is 4 months away. I've tried to tell them to get their dresses but it's harder since they live out of state. Should I be worried? The other dresses came in quick but I'm worried with it getting closer to summer wedding season.

It depends how long it takes to get them and if they need altering. And you would want some leeway in case something goes wrong. I would be concerned

Have you asked them why they haven't bought the dress yet?

Normally you'd want to order them all together so that they come out of the same dye batch (so the color is the same). I would ask the shop what the deadline to order is. Some designers have different cutoffs.

Ask them why there seems to be a hold up, if it's a money issue and you're able offer to pay for them and get them ordered. If it's not let them know they have until a certain date to order the dress by. You do still have time. I would recommend before you pick an end date to call the store where the dress is being ordered from and find out what the order time is on the dress.

I would call the store and find out the latest that they can order the dress. Give them the deadline, and if they don't order the dress then they can attend as guests.

I had that same issue with one of my bms. I told her if she didn't order it by X date she was going to have to pay a rush fee. She ordered it a week later.

I have two attendants and they haven't even picked a dress. I told them a color family and length and told them to find one (don't have to match each other). I'm paying for their dresses, too. I sent a text the other night that we are five months out and we need time for them to arrive and be altered. Neither one responded. I refuse to stress about it. If they don't get their dresses, I won't have ant attendants. It won't ruin my day.

I'm a month away from my date and one girl hasn't gotten her dress. She kept saying I'll get it this Friday. And every Friday passed and nothing. I believe she is going to bail and not come

I'm in the same situation and it's stressing me out. I even told the OOT bridesmaid that I will pay for her dress, I just need her to go get measured so we know what size to order. It's been two months now since she said she would go.

Now I kind of feel like IDGAF, and if she doesn't go, she just won't be in the wedding.

I don't want to chase after people when I have enough on my plate.

You should be kind of worried. Same happened to me, two decided to wait till a month before my wedding to buy their dress, at David's Bridal. Surprise surprise, there was no time to order anything in, or have anything altered, so they had to take whatever the store had in their size and my colour. One of them hated hers sooooo much. I can't describe how much. Tell them my BMs horror story so they can do something, soon.

I don't know if you're also using DB, and if the problem is money, but here's a solution my BMs ignored: You can buy a colour swatch for $1 online, and I think it's free in store. They can go get a swatch, then go to their preferred not-so-expensive store and get a dress that matches the swatch.

Give them a concrete date. So many people have zero clue how long bridesmaid dresses can take to arrive.

Its either a money issue (most likely) or they really don't want to be a bridesmaid issue.

Where is the dress from and how much does it cost? Are you flexible on the style if they decide to get it from somewhere else?? Since only 2 bought, its possible to get a 2nd color for the remaining girls that goes with the colors the 2 girls bought.

Best thing to do, is just give them a deadline and try to work with them.

I agree with the other ladies. Find out the cutoff date to get the dresses ordered and let them know that it has to be ordered by that date. Don't stress out about it. If they don't get them in time, I would just have them as a guest and not worry about it. Lucky, I haven't had that problem as of yet... (knock on wood)

Reason #1,513 why I'm not having any attendants.

This is terrifying to me. Hopefully the girls will do it now! My recommended cutoff date from my bridal salon is April 9th for my October wedding. I'm sending the girls a reminder at the end of the month.
