Bridesmaids Gifts: Thank You, Black Friday

IronMaiden, on November 26, 2017 at 3:35 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18

I finally finished off my BM shopping this morning thanks to all of the sales this weekend.

I didn't want to do the getting ready robes, because, to me, it seems a bit overdone and I know a few of my friends wouldn't be okay with showing their legs, my self included. So I got them cute PJ's. Everyone who knows me knows that I love cats (we have 4) and all of my friends also love them. So instead of bridesmaids related PJ's, I found this cute top from Loft and these pants from Aeire by American Eagle Outfitters. I wanted to do something matching but something more "me". (More gifts/pics in the comments.) All that's left is a note for each of them and to get the right packaging... can't decide if I should do a box or a basket, or...? And then I need to move on to a gift for my Bridesman.... I'm at a loss for him. I like getting the smaller stuff done early so I have less "little things" ad the day gets closer. Plus... amazing sales right now.

Do I need more? Too much? Thoughts?

Vow to be Chic was having a massive sale so I picked up one of these for each friend too. It includes a nail polish, nail files and a small box of champagne gummie bears from Sugarfina. My sister doesn't drink so I went to Sugarfina and picked up some non alcoholic gummies that still fit the theme. I'm going to undo each box and put them with the other gifts... which are.....

Are these outfits something your BMs are wearing for pictures? If so, that's not a gift.

Cost Plus World Market was having a sale for stocking stuffers so I picked up a pearl sheet mask and a can of rose. Again, my sister doesn't drink so I'm going to try to find some fancy yummy soda for her.

@firstone These will be worn while we are getting ready. But as I said in my post, there are more gifts/pics in the comments.

The thing about robes or flannels, you can get ready in it and take it off without worrying about your hair or makeup getting messed up. That's why it "overdone."

I'm sorry to say this, but I would not wear a collar like that after spending $100 plus on getting my hair and makeup done.

Unless you'd be okay with your party removing it with a pair of scissors right down the center.

Understood. However, if an item is something you want them to wear in pictures, than it's a prop for your wedding. That's not a gift and it shouldn't be included as such.

Frankly, I'm not a fan of giving people a bunch of little stuff. There's nothing wrong with taking advantage of a good sale, but I suggest one substantial gift that is for each person (like it's a birthday gift). The gift shouldn't be more "you", it should be more "them." You're thanking them for all the time, money and effort for being in your wedding and nail polish, gummy bears, a face mask and a can of wine doesn't cut it for me.

I'm also not a fan of collars like that when I get my hair done but if you're having a sleepover all together the night before or something that's cute! You know your girls, if they'd love these little things then more power to you. I haven't started thinking about thank you gifts at all so I like to read these and get ideas.

I thought about that with the collars but all of the girls want their hair down or are leaving it natural, which makes the collar less of an issue. As for the non substantial little gifts, all of my friends love sugar candy & champagbe, all of them love pink and all of them love to get their nails done. So while it might not seem good enough to some, I actually put a lot of time and thought into what to get them. It just happened to be really cool that VtbC had a box that fit with things they all have in common.

I think that's plenty! It seems silly to me to buy too much, unless they're doing a LOT to help you prepare for the wedding. If they're just showing up to be bridesmaids for a couple little events, you have arranged for some very generous thank yous!

I'll be buying thank you gifts for the gals who have been there every step (helping me pick the dress, sample catering, contact vendors, tour venues, etc.), but other than that, just a small personal gift seems sufficient...

For the guy, does he have a beard? Some special, fancy beard cream/mustache wax would be cute. Or some "manly" toiletries, with a flask or small bottle of his favorite whisky?

You're a very thoughtful bride! Don't let people tell you otherwise.

@lisamarie That's very kind of you! 3 of the 5 girls are not able to help me, not because they don't want to, but because of location and other obligations, which I already knew and was not expecting anything different. My MOH has been the best friend ever. She's already my hetero life partner but her willingness to help me plan, even when I didn't ask for it, has been the kindest thing. I'm getting her an extra gift that I'll give to her in private. She picked this ring out a long time ago but couldn't justify buying it for herself so I'm going to surprise her with it. And my sister, who's a BM, she is one of the most generous people I know. She's in a doctorate program so she's swamped but I know as the wedding gets closer, she will help me with anything.

As for my Bridesman, he does have a beard- that's a good idea. I was a groomswoman for his wedding. We are concert buddies so he got me a t shirt for our favorite band and a set of drum sticks that has a autograph stamped on from the band's drummer. He doesn't drink. I was thinking of getting him a watch? I could also get him an album or two from our favorite band that I know he doesn't have. He's a tough one. I like the beard kit idea though!!!

Fair enough. However, when you come to a forum and ask for opinions, please don't get defensive when you don't get the answer you want.

@firstone I 100% respect your opinion and I would tend to agree with you. I just wanted to make it clear that my choices all had thought and meaning behind them. I appreciate everyones opinion, especially with this because I am getting gifts for all of my girlfriends and therefore I can't ask their opinions. Smiley smile

Very cute arrangement of gifts! I love gifts that are a bunch of smaller things (as long as they are items I will use). I’m also intrigued by the champagne gummy bears mmmm.

The gummy bears are from Sugarfina which is super popular in my area of California. Not sure if they're popular elsewhere. I haven't tried them myself because I don't like gummies but my MOH says they're the best ones. I ordered a non alcoholic version for my sister directly from the website and they came the other day with a sample gummy called apple pie. Hand to God it tasted just like Apple pie... not chemical apple pie. I was impressed!

I’m in Canada, so maybe that’s why I haven’t heard of this magical place!

Just here to say that those pajamas are adorable! I would personally love those, especially compared to the robe I just got a few weeks ago as a BM that literally was so cheap it didn't make it through one wash.
