Bridesmaids dress doesn't fit...

Natalie, on May 30, 2016 at 4:19 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

I got a text yesterday from one of my bm saying the dress won't zip all the way up because of her rib cage. I have 8 bm and 3 of them live out of state and she happens to be one of them. I told the bm to call the place and see what they can do. My mom said not to worry and the seamstress can fix anything, but I am kind of worried. Have any of you had this experience?

Seriously don't stress about this. It'll get fixed by September.

Was she measured properly? Did she order the correct size? Did she gain weight?

Thanks. I just know it took months to order the dresses and they just came in. I'm sure something can be worked out, I just hope the other 2 girls dresses aren't too small. I received a photo of a bm who got fitted there at the bridal salon and the dress fits her like a glove.

Just had this happen last night. One of my MOH is busty and her dress fits everywhere except there. I couldn't get it zipped all the way. The dress was on clearance at David's & luckily still available. I'm ordering her a new one. Price dropped to $50. No seamstress can alter it for $50.

She def didn't gain weight, I think she was measured wrong. That was my worst fear for those out of state. I'm not worried about the girls who were fitted at the actual store where the dress was ordered, but for those who didn't....who knows.

If the store measured wrong, that's one thing. But if she called her measurements in, there isn't much she can do as far as getting one rushed in the proper size.

Is the dress style such that a corset could be put in the back? Plenty of time to do that..

Yeah that's what I was getting at. If the store measured her wrong, then the store would have to fix it. They can probably get it let out a bit though.

I had measurements written wrong for a BM dress of mine. It was literally two inches off... So bad. The dresses took so long to come in that we had no time to get a replacement. I found a seamstress that was able to take it out an inch and I was able to lose an inch to make it work. If you can't get a replacement for her being measured incorrectly, see what a seamstress can do. Sometimes those dresses have quite a bit of extra fabric in them.

I have two who's don't zip right now. They both took them to seamstresses who said they should be able to let them out enough to get them to zip.

This happened to me when I was a bridesmaid in my niece's wedding. I called the seamstress at the store where we ordered the dress and she was amazing! The difference was this was the night before the wedding. She worked through the night and was able to fix the dress. So you should have plenty of time for alterations.

Thanks everyone! She told them her measurements over the phone so it's prob her fault but not sure. She's going to have to call the bridal salon this week and prob have to get it taken care of in California where she lives.

This happened to my sister. The dress came in one month before the wedding so ordering another one wasn't an option.

She just got a seamstress to let it out as much as possible and then used some of the fabric from bottom of the dress when she hemmed it to create more room to open it up. The back of her dress obviously looked a little different from the rest but no one was looking that closely!

Great feedback jersey Jen. My one bm sent me a pic of her in her dress and shoes and she absolutely loves it. I chose this style bc I felt everyone could wear it as a cocktail dress again. I pray my other bms dress turns out okay.

When I was a member of a large bridal party, 2 of us just switched. Mine was too big, another's was too small = I ended up not having to get any alterations, at all.

Don't worry, a seamstress will be able to figure it out. My sister's seamstress essentially just created two small v shaped "panels" on each side of the zipper to allow more space. It was a improper measurement issue for my sister as well. She couldn't get it to go over her ribcage.

    ETA: those dresses are adorable!

Is it close to zipping? Some of my bridesmaids dresses barely fit or didn't zip and they went to David's bridal and they said it was the correct size and will stretch so they will be trying it on regularly to get it to stretch
