I have 6 bridesmaids. All of them are different shapes and sizes.

The other day I asked what were my girls budgets. Yesterday a bridesmaid told me that her mom suggested I give each bridesmaid a swatch of the color I want there dress to be and tell them to go pick out there dress based off of the color and the style I want. I trust all my bridesmaid that they are capable of doing that but I just can't see myself doing that. Plus, I am not sure if I want them all in the same style dress or not. If I did agree to do that, I feel like I would want them to show me the dress so that I can approve before they make their purchase.

What do you think about this bridesmaids mothers suggestion? Ladies who have a bridal party similar to mines...what did you do?

Please help.

Thank you everyone for your advice, help and opinions.

I am leaning towards having BM's pick out the dress they want and providing designer, color, length and fabric. As I look at more pictures online and on Pinterest I like the different dress style thing.

@kyra I took the biggest girl and the tallest girl with me to pick out a dress and if it looked good on them then I knew it would look good on all of the smaller girls. I did a 1 shoulder so they had some type of support and stayed around those stipulations. And im not a in store shopper I saw a picture of a dress that I liked and told them thats the one I want and my tallest bridesmaid tried it on and they loved them so it was a win win for all of us.

ETA: most of my girls live in different states so I found a store and they all just sent their measurements and payments in. Those who couldnt make it to the shop I picked their dresses up and they picked them up from my house.

Although yes, it's possible for one dress to look "good" on all the girls, i still don't think they would have all picked that dress if given the choice.

My girls are fucking models basically, all size 4-8 and 6 feet tall, yet they all picked a different dress. Some with a slit, some without, half strapless, half without... if these girls had insecurities about their bodies, shoulders, boobs, i have to believe that everyone does. In my opinoin all matching bridesmaids is going to be a dated trend in the future

When we went, I told them all the fabric, color, and length. They went from there. Turns out they all loved and looked great in the same dress though.

I like David's Bridal because they range in sizes so every one should be able to find their size there. And they carry many different styles of dresses in the same color and fabric so they will all match and be comfortable.

Be kind to your bridesmaids. Pick the colour and designer and then let them pick the style that best suits their individual shapes so they feel beautiful and comfortable.

I did the same thing as Maltese did except I narrowed it down to 12 dresses to choose from.

I went to a local shop that has multiple locations for my BMs who do not live here and picked 2 designers so 6 dresses from each designer. All will be long, chiffon and eggplant but they got to pick their own necklines.

I just liked the idea of knowing that they will pick something that they will be comfortable in. And I have a lot of different body types in my BP, too.

I told my girls their dresses had to be black and they needed them before August 1st. I have 7 ladies all together and they are all different sizes and shapes. I want them to be comfortable and beautiful.

Luckily my bridesmaids were easy to deal with. But top note I work with 2 out of 3 of them so it worked out and I let them pick but if I didnt like I told them haha

I told all of my bridesmaids to get a black maxi skirt and I told them a color for their shirt but let them all pick a style on their own. I will post a picture later.. they have all picked very different shirts but they look SO cute! It shows their personalities AND they can wear both things again.

We're using Azazie. It gives you a chance to look at all the dresses so you know which ones they could pick. They have a range and are all super affordable and you can order swatches before so you know exactly what the color looks like. You could even ask them to choose between a few options, give them a fabric and color choice, or just pick a color.

A friend of mine had the same problem and she chose one of those convertible, multiway dresses so everyone looked great and we wear them all the time (at least I do)
