I have 6 bridesmaids. All of them are different shapes and sizes.

The other day I asked what were my girls budgets. Yesterday a bridesmaid told me that her mom suggested I give each bridesmaid a swatch of the color I want there dress to be and tell them to go pick out there dress based off of the color and the style I want. I trust all my bridesmaid that they are capable of doing that but I just can't see myself doing that. Plus, I am not sure if I want them all in the same style dress or not. If I did agree to do that, I feel like I would want them to show me the dress so that I can approve before they make their purchase.

What do you think about this bridesmaids mothers suggestion? Ladies who have a bridal party similar to mines...what did you do?

Please help.

My 4 girls are all differently shaped as well. I took them shopping together and let them tell me what they liked/what they are comfortable in. We found one that flattered all of them and then ordered in my color. Had that not worked my plan was to have them choose a style that they liked on them and just order my color. I want all of girls to feel good about the way they look on the big day. When you feel self conscious it shows in puctures.

@kyra...I've got 5 bridesmaids total. It was super easy and they were all (I think) excited that I let them pick...there are two strapless dresses and 1 each of one shoulder, halter-ish and two straps.

Best part is not only can they not complain that they hate the dress, but this meant they picked the price too...all the dresses ranged from $180 to $250 or so

I have 6 bridesmaids & told them they just had to pick a black knee length dress. I'm in a wedding in September & there are 6 BMs as well & all different shapes - we are all wearing floor length chiffon gowns in plum (or the DB Vera Wang purple) but each is a different style. It helped to all go shopping at once (though it was a shitshow)

I've been a bridesmaid to a couple of weddings and they just gave me a color and a length and we picked the dress. I'll be doing the same. I grabbed some paint swatches and took a pic, then made a google doc with the picture and pictures of other dresses that some BMs have gotten so they know what to look for. I like the google doc cause then I can also update for any info that I need to give them, like times and locations, etc. I also made a pinterest board where I found different dresses with the colors for further inspiration. I like it this way cause they all will have similar colors but completely different styles. And it can be whatever price range they want. My color is lavender although it's been surprisingly difficult to find so I expanded to more rosey shades and also lighter lavenders that are almost cream.

I have 8 bridesmaids that are extremely different in size and shape. Even though the wedding is a year out still my best friend is going to be visiting from Hawaii next month. I have planned a girls day with all of the bridesmaids which also includes an appointment at Davids Bridal to try on dresses. The girls don't have to buy any right away but at least this way they can help decided what their dresses are.

I have 6 girls, size 2-20 as well. All are wearing the same dress and all look amazing in it. Long, chiffon, in black. They picked the style, not me (I was pretty much indifferent to what they wore...wanted them to like it and be comfortable and feel good about themselves in it; I just wanted long and black). I didn't want all different dresses. I like that look, it just wasn't the look I was going for. But was open to it if they couldn't decide on a dress. Picking a dress was super easy for them. And it looks amazing on each girl. So flattering. So, bottom line is....you can do it either way. Either different dresses for different girls, which definitely looks great in it's own right. Or, you can definitely go with the same dress for all the girls, regardless of the varying shapes and sizes. It can work. Just be selective with what dress you choose. Obviously not all dresses work on all body types. But there ARE dresses that DO work on all body types. Your girls have to be open to the dresses that work on everyone though.

Well really it was the sales associate at David's Bridal. There were six of us and as I mentioned, different body types (and styles) so there were a lot of things we wanted to try. The associate made us tell her what styles we wanted to try on and the sizes and wouldn't let us get them ourselves...so there was a lot of standing around because she just ignored like half our requests or only got one size, even though we're all different sizes. so there was a lot of downtime or someone trying on one dress and then getting out of it, so another person could try it on and the sales associate was just overwhelmed and not really helpful.

I am standing in my SIL's wedding this fall and she told us the color, fabric and length but we got to choose our style. We all went to DB together and tried on dresses and everyone got something they were comfortable in.

I think it's perfectly fine to have different dresses but I would suggest the same material so the colors are the same (the same color will look different in satin vs chiffon, etc).

My 8 girls are all different shapes and sizes as well. We went to DB and found a dress that compliments all of them and got that one. For the ladies who are top-heavy, it conceals, for those that are lacking, it gives (it's weird how that is possible) and it has front and back pleating which hides imperfections in the tummy area and bottom, but also gives a bottom to those lacking. They are all wearing the same style.

I also second what Amy says above - It is possible to find one dress that looks good on all of your girls. There are so many different styles and fabrics that compliment different body types.

I love the look of mis-matched styles of BM dresses, but I think keeping the designer / fabric / color the same is key as that brings them all together and makes them look cohesive. If the dresses are from different designers, it is unlikely that the colors will match.

I picked a color and fabric from David's bridal and left the rest up to the girls. They actually ended up finding a dress that looked good on all of them.

My BMs are wearing the same style dress. I let them pick the dress as long as it was black and long. They ended up choosing a dress that compliments my dress. And the dress looks flattering on everyone.

All three of my girls are completely different sizes and shapes, ranging from a size 26 to 16 to 10. I chose three different designers that all had a shade of purple I wanted and told them to buy which ever dress they wanted from those designers in the specific color and I asked for it to be floor length and not one shoulder. So far two of them have gotten their dresses and they look both look gorgeous!

I agree with the others. Let them wear different styles in the same designer and color. In my opinion, the group will look more put together in dresses that are flattering to each girl than dresses that are all the same but don't necessarily look great on everyone. You want them to feel good in what they are wearing.

I've heard a lot about azazie.com. You can pick a color, or a few dresses and have them choose. Also, they are mostly all A-line which is a universally flattering cut! Just an option. It is a website, so that does involve some major trust!

I gave them a length (knee-ish length), color palette, and some pinterest pictures, and they all picked out their own. I have 6 girls and I think it will look great. I did ask my MOH to get a long dress to stand out so she did. SOme of the girls paid alot of money for their dress, others got something more budget friendly, and I think it was a great option because it gave them a ton of flexibility. As others have noted above, the colors/fabric will not be exactly the same, but I like that look!

My bridesmaids all live in different states and will not be able to get here before the wedding. They all vary in body shape and size greatly. I gave them the color and told them I want them to look and feel beautiful. For me that meant letting them choose what is style is right for their body.

It was supposed to be simple but we have run into quite a few problems with David's Bridal. Finding out that many of the dresses in our color (blue-violet)are being discontinued. Aside from loving the color when I picked it one of the main reasons was the variety of styles being offered in that color because it was new for this season.
