Bridesmaid Dresses: Too Dark for a Summer Wedding?

Marisa-in-Love, on November 21, 2013 at 9:55 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

Hi ladies! Quick question: Are these dresses too dark for a summer wedding? Our colors are plum and silver (with accents of ivory, black, blush, and lavender).

I prefer the lace overlay dresses, but they are all black lace over purple (for the bridesmaids) or over charcoal (for the maid of honor)

Otherwise I'll probably take a look at the chiffon dresses I found a few months ago, but 2 of my bridesmaids have REALLY wide hips, so the dresses don't look amazing on them...

Also I offered to let them pick their own dresses. They don't want to. Opinions? Suggestions?

I personally think they're kind of dark for a summer affair. Then again, is the wedding at night? They can pass off better at nighttime. Plum is a dark color in general, I consider it more of a fall color--maybe put your girls in blush dresses since you said that's one of your other colors?

Fourth one over (the white one) from someone with wide hips. Though the bottom two are pretty the problem is with the "thing" down the middle I would feel like it made my hips look even wider, and if any of those wide hipped girls are also big busted that dress is just not gonna be flattering.

I'd just make sure to incorporate some of those lighter colors into the decor since light colors are so much more summery.

I think it depends on what YOU like. I am having a march wedding and decided against grey or plum (when my colors included purple) because they were darker, I went with a lighter color. But it's your wedding, girl!

It's a later afternoon affair, but it's in July, so the sun won't go down until 8:30 lol

The Flower girl is in blush lace, but I am NOT a pink person. I just liked the way it looked with the plum and gray. So going with all blush dresses wouldn't work at all for me.

I love bright for the summer. Especially if it's light outside. But your wedding, your colors. :-/

If it were MY wedding, I wouldn't do such a dark color for summer/daylight hours. But, it's your wedding and I don't think anybody is going to talk about you for choosing that if it is what you like.

I am doing emerald green on July 5th, and if anyone doesn't like it they can suck it- LOL! But I am also doing midsummer night's dream for the theme, with all dark green foliage, so I think it will work fine. We are also having the ceremony at five, so it's a failry late in the day wedding. I say you can do it if you make it work- also the fabric makes a big difference. I am also looking at chiffon or lace overlay- I think it is very summery.
