Sorry for the double post - one more question:

I think I'm going to ask my wedding party (men and women) to simple wear a formal, floor length black dress if they're a woman or a black tux is they're a man.

I'm curious how they "choose your own" dress method went for any of you. Did you ask for "approval" on the dresses? Did your people appreciate the flexibility? Would you do it the same way again? Did you find that anyone picked dresses that weren't appropriate?

Thank you!

When my friend got married last year we went to davids bridal and tried on a bunch of dresses before settling on one style one color and the rule was it had to be ordered from there to make sure the color matched.

Now my sister's wedding the main direction was satin floor length in one of three colors she chose for each of us and told to go wild. This far it has turned out amazing.

I’m doing then with my bridal party. Same advice as others.. be a little more specific if you want certain things. I didn’t want massive cleavage. I also asked that they send me their dresses to try to make sure everyone ends up in slightly different styles!

I'm doing exactly the same; black floor-length dresses. I'm glad to see it's worked out for folks who have already done it.

I said I would like them in navy. They all decided on long independently since it was November and they thought it would be cold. I LOVED the way it turned out. I couldn’t have been happier, but I was also super laid back about the whole thing and didn’t have a vision. I only knew what my MOH’s looked like and a friend that wore one from another wedding as BM. 2 got theirs on Amazon, one at Macy’s, one was Alfred Angelo and another was Azzazie. On Amazon, one BM just looked for dresses that were Prime eligible.

Luckily black will be easy to match. I was a bridesmaid in a wedding where the bride allowed us to choose our own dresses, as long as they were a certain material, length, and color. The bride actually went shopping with us so she was able to see which options we were leaning towards. I guess I liked having the option to choose my own style, but I am pretty indecisive so it put some pressure on me. When I got married, I choose three dresses that were very similar and allowed each of my bridesmaids to choose which one the preferred. Two chose one dress and two chose another, which made it look symmetrical and made my type A personality happy. Smiley tongue

I did this for my wedding and gave them guidelines. I chose the designer, fabric, color and floor length. I then scheduled a time for all of us to shop together and approved their dresses. Made it fun by being a girls shopping day and treated to lunch after.

We agreed on it because some like to be the center of attention so I chose the design and the length

Fashions can be different, but do suggest a fabric. if you want organza, or if you want chiffon, or satin or crepe -- get some swatches and have everyone agree on that and then they have a guideline. You should also put limitations if you want a dress low back or too plunging in the front.

GREAT!!!!! My wife and I provided bracers (armor for the forearms) made out of black-pho-leather with a paw prints for my wife's side and bird feet for my side embroidered on them and told our wedding party to pick their own outfits. Everyone looked great for our Renaissance fair/ time traveler themed wedding.

My girls are doing this. I’m having them all Order from the same website so I know the color will be the same for everyone and I told them the color, length and the fabric type. They all seem to really appreciate the fact that they’re picking their own and that they actually like the dress they’re going to wear
