Bridesmaid dress as a wedding dress

Brittany, on October 1, 2016 at 9:05 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

Have any of you used a bridesmaid dress as your wedding dress? How did it turn out? I found some bridesmaid dresses I think would work as a wedding dress, but they don't have a train or all the bling. I'm worried they won't feel "wedding" enough.

I am wearing a white chiffon maxi dress I bought from Lulu's, and adding a wedding dress belt I found on Etsy, along with my veil and jewelry, and super sparkly shoes. I think as long as you're comfortable in it, go for it! I couldn't justify spending thousands on something I'm wearing for a few hours, so I splurged on the shoes that I will definitely wear again!

If you don't want an extravagant dress, I say go for it. But as you said, they are a little more plain. If you don't mind that look it would work perfect !

I just bought a Hayley Paige bridesmaid dress and ordered it in ivory. I'm going to add a belt to it but other than that, I won't change a thing. I love the simplicity of it, honestly. Here's a picture (because I love sharing it). It was way cheaper than an actual 'wedding dress' of similar style that I tried on, too.

ETA: Do what makes you comfortable and happy, and you'll be beautiful on your day!

I definitely tried on a few! I wanted a simpler look. I ended up getting a wedding dress very similar to a BM dress but with a little more beaded embellishments.

THEre is a Jenny yoo bridesmaid dress that I found after I already bought my dress that I would have loved to use. Even considered buying it and selling my other bc of it. But one of my bridesmaids bought that as her dress in adusty blue color so at least it's still in my wedding.

I am going dress shopping tomorrow and I may look at Bridesmaid dresses just due cost. You can always dress it up with accessories and shoes.

DH's cousin did this. She and her wife got bridesmaid dresses in blush and it was beautiful! I think if you have a bouquet and veil you'll feel bridal. You're the bride and everyone knows you're the bride whether or not you're wearing a bridal gown. Smiley smile

I am doing this! I bought a tea length bridesmaids dress for my wedding dress and am so excited to wear it. I am also pleased to have saved the money, which is now paying for the open bar. Everyone is a winner!

You can add bling and wow-factor with shoes, belt, and jewelry, and you can add the effect of a train with a long veil. Try on the bridesmaid dresses with some added bells and whistles if the shop has accessories around to see if you can create the look you are going for - but make sure you try on some wedding gowns too to make sure you don't like those more, in case you're worried about feeling like you're missing out. And take lots of pictures for us so we can see!!

Do what makes you happy. If there is a bridesmaid dress that you want to wear as a wedding dress then go for it! Its easy enough to add some bling to a dress through a belt or the jewelry you wear.

In the end I don't think anyone would be able to tell the difference or question what type of dress you are wearing.

I'm considering it. I've only been to try on dresses once, but the look I wanted was closest to the BM dress I tried. So, maybe. I have no problem with it being a bridesmaids dress, in fact that would be great because it's less expensive. It just depends on what ends up being what I'm looking for

I found a simple style ivory sheath dress for myself. It cost a little more than a bridesmaid dress but it looks bridal. It's from David's Bridal. They have sheath dresses as low as $100 there and they look bridal.
