Bridesmaid Boxes, How to Ask Your Bridesmaids...

Lauren, on April 4, 2016 at 3:00 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 33

How has everyone "proposed" to their bridesmaids? I haven't asked mine quite yet, but I'm having so much fun looking at what to include and DIY-ing things. My wedding is 11 months away, so I have time to figure mine out.

I made the attached hangers from IKEA wood hangers (5 for $4.99) and a stamp set. I am testing out adding a bow.

I put together one box so far with Sutter Home wine ($2 each, comes in 4 pack), EOS lip balm ($2.50) a Rifle Paper Co. notebook ($4.32 each, comes in a 3 pack for about $12.95 at Target) and I found Essie nail polish at TJ Maxx or Marshall's ($3.99). The box was $4.99 at Target, I'm looking at places like Michaels or Joann for the rest so they are cheaper and the paper shred was found at the Dollar Tree.

As I said, I'm still figuring out exactly how I will be asking and with what items. I may give the hanger first and then the box closer to the wedding as part of their gift since it may end up costing more money.

I don't like this that much. I did it the old fashion way, "will you be my bridesmaid?".

I feel like the gift can put them on the spot and feel obligated to say yes.

It's cute but I just called them all up and asked each other them.

Remember that if you give them gifts now, you have to give them even better gifts at the wedding. you're setting the tone now for more gifts later.

I just called and asked. I would never expect a gift when being asked to be a bridesmaid.

I think what you have is a cute place to start for their actual bridesmaid gifts.

I think they're cute. It's nice that you DIY 'd it. I would say keep it at that, don't do anything more. Maybe just a card or a letter. Don't blow a bunch of money.

I find most of the time girls are happy and excited to becoming a bridesmaid. You know your girls better than anyone else. The situation is different for everyone

I love all things cute-sy and I'm an over-gifter, so I did boxes as well! I struggled through DIYing the boxes Smiley smile In the end they turned out cute but as always everyone's favorite thing was the personal note from me about why I love them and why it would mean so much to me to have them by my side!

I ask my list of bridesmaid first and I wanted a small number. It's important not to get carried away. I had at one point 8 bridesmaid and cut it down to 5. I just put something small together. I had bags that i bought in Dubai and put a personal note inside. The simplest thing means the most.

    Congratulations and good luck!

I just asked. Remember with your wedding budget it all adds up. You will have to give them BM's gifts later on.

I DIY'd boxes similar to yours. I mailed them to my girls and they loved them. I got so many compliments and they thought they we so unique and loved all the little stuff I put in them. Here's a picture of mine

Everyone knew I was engaged. So I sent a flipgram picture video with a poem and the song "marry you" by Bruno Mars. They all cried bc they wasn't expecting it to me asking them

I sent a text to one. Haven't asked others yet. I wanted to a proposal kind of thing but couldn't decide on what so I just sent a text to ask her.

Don't do it! The big "bridesmaid proposals" put pressure on the people asked to accept, even if they can't afford it/don't wan to. And then you'll be shocked when they don't get their dresses in time/drop out. (PLEASE tell me you're not expecting them to get their dresses and show up on the day, but if you are, they won't do those extra "duties," either.)

I asked them ahead of time but also bought messages in a bottle from Amazon. Super cute!
