First, you are going to beat this shit, okay? Cancer is no match for you. You obviously have a strong support system, and that is key.

How, on to the hair. Women are crazy about it. Even me, though you couldn't tell by my avatar.....

See what happens. I've had several friends to through chemo and radiation without losing their hair; everyone is different. If it happens to you? Be bald proudly and find a wig that works for you.

I would wear a wig. I started growing my hair out about 4 months ago. I often feel like going back to my short hair but if I did I'd either do extensions or a wig. Only thing is I never worn either so I'm afraid of losing them and being embarrassed.

Start wearing them now ... cut your hair low now . Tgis will give you a year to find what works and looks good on you . The compliments on the styles will get your confidence up. Hope this helps

Not all chemo makes you lose hair! My mom had a chemo where she didn't. But if you do, talk to your oncology department. They have resources. They can send you to wig specialists so you can find something! My mom is on a new chemo and did lose her hair now, but her wig looks real. Although she usually opts for a scarf.

I grew up knowing a girl who had alopecia and has been bald most of her life. She actually competed for Miss America a few years ago, and did the evening gown competition without her wig.

In pictures, her wigs have always looked pretty high quality. You wouldn't know it was a wig unless you knew her story.

I'd say wait until you are closer to make a decision about your wedding day. For all you know, your hair will have started growing back, or you will have decided that you want to rock your beautiful bald head. Whatever you do, choose what make you feel comfortable. If you find that wigs are what makes you feel comfortable, know that there are very realistic options out there.

I had cervical cancer in 2012. I did chemo. I ironically only lost my hair in patches, not all over, but it was very thin. I was in a wedding as a bridesmaid and the stylist was able to pile it all on top of my head to cover the worst of the bald spots. Let me see if I can find a picture.

I'm the one on the far left. I can't readily find my close up at the moment. You'll have to wait and see how your system responds. Rather you chose to wear a wig, shave your head, or work with what you got - you will be beautiful.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. My treatment plan is this egg retrieval this month (FH and I are freezing embryos to use in a surrogate [my aunt] next winter yay!) --> full hysterectomy in December --> radiation five days a week with a combo low dose chemo -->high dose chemo

My oncologist has said that once I start the high dose chemo I'll lose my hair with the combo of everything. I wasn't too concerned honestly, obviously as long as I can be healthy again I'll get through it. Then we set our date and a few days later it hit me that I most likely wouldn't have hair for the wedding lol

@ashley so glad you're doing well now! I haven't talked to anyone else yet that has had cervical cancer as well, just friends with other types.

ALSO: anyone in the Ohio area that needs any kind of oncology help, highly recommend The James Cancer Hospital. We have been floored by everyone there and how great they are, I even plan on trying to work there once done with my treatment.

Sending you hugs. I can't imagine going through this. I have a friend from high school who was diagnosed with a brain tumor last December. She had as much of the tumor removed as they could get without affecting her cognition, speech, movement, etc, then she went through 4 months of intense chemo and radiation. The only place she lost hair was where they shaved her head for the surgery. Almost a year later, and she's still got that gorgeous blonde hair I remember from high school. I'm sending you good vibes, ju-ju, what have you, to help you out!

I don't have any suggestions but I just wanted to give you a virtual hug and say that you will beat this! I personally love when cancer patients just own being bald. To me it shows a level of strength that just radiates beauty. Please keep us updated on your treatment! I will be thinking of you!

Try on wigs and see how you feel in them.

I think the idea of just a flower crown and no hair would be amazing.

Having multiple options to choose the day of would be nice just so that you have options depending how you feel that day. Whatever you do you will be beautiful!

I know a woman who did cold cap therapy. She didn't lose her hair during chemo. It thinned a bit but she didn't lose it. That might be worth looking into.

I've also seen a lot of good wigs. You don't have to worry about them looking unnatural in photos. You might want to check with the cancer society organization. Unfortunately too many women are having the same struggle but there are options. Cancer sucks. I wish you the best. You can beat it!

My FMIL is currently going through chemo and she's worried about not having hair for our wedding. I've heard wigs can look super realistic so she's decided to go that route. Do whatever feels comfortable to you! Keeping you in my thoughts.

A wig can look totally natural, as long as you learn how to wear it (always with a wig cap!) and how it can be styled. A human hair wig will look the most realistic, obviously, and you could save a lick of your hair to color match. Kanekalon is a high quality ynthetic fiber that tends to look pretty realistic too, just keep an eye out for wigs that just say synthetic: they're usually low quality and kink up really easily/fray horribly. In a synthetic wig, you want something that has highlights and lowlights throughout to give a more natural variation in the color.

What pp said is absolutely true though. DF was told he would lose his hair when he did chemo several years ago for stomach cancer, and he ended up having to cut it three times a week because it started growing like crazy. The doctors were absolutely baffled by it.

I'm so sorry this is something you're having to worry about while planning you're wedding.

Look into the cold cap therapy. You wear it during treatment and it protects from hair loss. A former coworker did this when going through her treatments and she kept her lovely locks.
