Brides maid or Brides matron

Karen, on December 8, 2013 at 12:09 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

If you have an attendant that is already married, what is her title. I already have my maid-of-honor, but one of the people that I have asked to be a brides maid is married. So do I still list her in the program as a brides maid or do I list her as a brides matron.

I don't think there is a difference for bridesmaids. I think it's usually just for maid/matron of honor.

Really doesn't matter. All my girls were maids, even with one being married.

I have a similar q about my maid/matron? of honor. She is divorced (seeing someone right now) and has two kids. Her ex-husband is deceased. Would she be maid of honor or matron of honor?

A Matron of Honor is the one who IS married and the Maid of Honor is NOT. To to sound mean or harsh but a Matron is a little higher than Maid, but they are all people that you love and want to surround you on your big day

According to Elizabeth Post, Dear Abby, and Miss Manners, a woman who has ever been married is a Matron of Honor, regardless of whether she still is. "Maid" originally referred to a virgin, or by extension an unmarried woman. And you don't go back to being a virgin. LOL

Fortunately, for bridesmaids, the title is the same regardless of marital status.

All of mine are married, so they are being listed in the program as bride's attendants.

Why not just call them brides maids? It's a sure way not to offend or Confuse people.

I didn't like using Matron for my BFF even though she is married and at the time had a daughter, now has 2 kids. I think it sounds like it should be used on someone at least 50+ yrs old. So she was just Maid of Honour.

I have a Maid of Honor and a Matron of Honor. The other girls will just be bridesmaids even if they are married.
