Bridal shower- already living together

Valerie, on June 30, 2010 at 5:45 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

So my MOH and bridesmaid asked me the other day if a) I wanted a co-ed bridal shower, b) if I wanted a themed shower and c) if I wanted a themed shower, which theme?

A themed shower sounds fun, but I haven’t the slightest clue what it would be. I’m still on the fence about having a co-ed shower. I think my FH will think it’s boring.

Here’s a question for you ladies (and gent)… my FH and I have been living together for awhile and will be getting a new place in the next few weeks. Our wedding isn’t until next June. We will most likely have all of the essential things most people include on a registry.

What is a good theme to have that won’t spur people to buy things that we’ll already have?

You need to create a registry.

Well, themes are neat & probably fun but... not necessary. And since they are usually a lunch-hour type of event, you could do a tea party, champaign brunch them, i've heard a lot of brides doing a mad hatter's tea party (Alice in Wonderland) theme recently. As for living together before the shower, my DH and I have been living together for 3 yrs, in 2 diff apartments, we have TONS of stuff we jointly own. It JUST so happens one of my GOOD friends and bridesmaid will be moving in with in in early August. So everything we get from our registries (kohls and bed and bath) we will pack up and give to my BM for when she moves out for the first time into her new apartment! It works out perfect Smiley smile Our old silverware, drinking glasses, pots/pans, etc.

We have lived together for about a year and a half but managed to find plenty to register for. You can register for items you have that are getting worn out, or maybe some nice wine glasses and china and stuff you just would like to have. Plus, it's fun to take the pricing gun and go look around. You'll find stuff!

My fh and I don't live together but between the two of us we have lots of stuff. We did register for nice things at macy's and at bed bath and beyond but I also set up a honeymoon registry, don't know if anyone will use it, but it doesn't hurt! On a side note though, you still have about 10 months till u need to decide anyways, since most bridal showers arent until about 6-8 weeks before the wedding and no one really buys u anything till a week before. Set up a registry though for your shower since no one wants to give money at a shower and they all stay to watch u open up giftsSmiley smile

This is becoming more and more a common issue. I actually just posted a blog on my friends wedding shower I am hosting. I am doing a Stock the Wine Cellar Theme! I am requiring all the guests to bring a bottle of their favorite wine. http://takeitpersonallybychristine.blogspot.com/

The design I created can be created with two people.

One of the things I like to mention on threads like these is that you may have dishes now, but you're going to need new dishes eventually, so why not get them now. When a lot couples get married they have a lot of stuff that they've accumulated over time, but a lot of the time it's crap! It's dishes that have been handed down from parents and pots and pan sets that have been cobbled together that are dented and without lids. Now this may not be the case for you, but this is an opportunity for other people to help you invest in good quality stuff for the house.

So register for a quality pots and pan set (All-Clad is supposed to be amazing!) and high thread count sheets. Like Binx said, make sure there's a range of items at various prices so everyone can find something in their budget. (Everyone needs a spoon rest!)

I hope that helps. I can't wait to replace our old stuff. Especially the knives!

Just to second what everyone else has said, you can usually use new, better versions of things you already have--we're definitely hoping to replace our coffee maker, and we already got a bunch of nice Fiestaware to replace the old set of black dishes I got from Wal-Mart in college.

If you really want a themed shower, though, I do like the stock the bar/wine cellar theme idea. Smiley laugh
