Brazilian Wax? Talk to me about it

Mrs.D, on October 30, 2016 at 9:06 AM

I've never been waxed down there, just shaved. I get my eyebrows waxed all the time though. I am wanting to do this for an upcoming trip to the beach for a week. I don't want to deal with shaving and bumps. Talk to me please about tips, what to expect, advice?

I go every 5/6 weeks and use European wax center. Definitely ibuprofen if you're sensitive. Make sure you exfoliate often to avoid ingrown hairs.

I prefer sugaring, not as harsh as wax. But I have also been getting Brazilians done for about 8 years. So that also helps out.

Painful but worth it. I wax my eyebrows,my upper lip, my underarms, my legs and get the Brazilian. I've been doing it for years so I'm used to it in a way but it's still painful.

EWC all the way! I've been getting a full bikini once a month for about two years now. I love my waxer, she does a great job!

Hurts like a bitch but it's worth it. I thought people were crazy when they said you'll never go back to shaving, but it's true!

I agree with European Wax Center. They keep it really cold in their facilities which is a good thing because you tend to run hot when you are in pain which can lead to sweating which can lead to awkwardness when being waxed down there. Also, the girl I go to at my location will use a really cold cloth to help with the pain after each strip which is heaven. Also, it hurts, like a lot. Like almost unbearably (at least to me) but it is gone in an instant like others said. The worst is the hood area which has the thickest hair. The backside, surprisingly, doesn't hurt at all (not like you would think). And I tend to feel bruised in the whole general area for 24 hours or so. It's also really red and looks like chicken skin (bumpy) for 12-24 hours. But after 24 hours I am good to go with a bathing suit. I also don't go regularly which is probably why it hurts so bad every time I go. I hear it hurts less and less as you keep up with it.

I love waxing! But you must get hard wax, less painful. First few times will hurt, but if you keep up with it and go monthly itll be less and less painful.

    Good luck

I go to European Wax Center as well. It doesn't hurt anymore as I've been doing Brazilians for a long time. I highly recommend them. I can't tell you if you'll be ready fir another in 2.5 weeks. It depends how fast your hair grows.

Don't go when you are about to get your period! It will hurt more, like pp have said it hurts but momentarily. Advil will help and if you have lidocaine near by use that lol ETA I do not share the same love for ewc, sadly they were quite disappointing and I have a local place that does a much better job

EWC ftw. I've been doing them for yrs. They hurt at first yes but the results keep me going back. Definitely invest in some after care products and take advil or whatnot about an hour before. Also don't do them right before your period or right after you're way more sensitive then

As a professional esthetician who specializes in speed waxing I think I can knock out a good chunk of these questions.

-Hard wax is NOT always better. Everyone's body hair is different. Some clients require hard wax others require a combo, some work better with soft wax only.

-Try to go to an independent waxing facility. No shade to EWC but I have heard far too many horror stories, my first time getting waxed at EWC was horrific, my esthetician was extremely curt and dead silent during my first time, which was super painful due to the fact that she used massive strips of hard wax. I told her it was my first time and she was still super cold about it. I have a few clients who have experienced similar things from various EWCs. It was certainly humbling though, after deciding to go to school for esthetics I made a vow to always treat my clients with the utmost TLC. If you must go make sure to request an esthetician with good reviews (yelp can usually help with this).

-Exfoliate 48 hours before your waxing, do not do it the day before there is a higher chance that your skin will lift. Coffee scrubs, sugar scrubs, even a good salicylic facial wash can get the job done.

-Take an advil prior to going, however a lot of places also offer champagne (my spot even has numbing spray). Obviously if you'd opt for champs if it is offered don't pop an advil.

-Do deep breathing. This helps tremendously, it's something I always offer to help my clients with too.

-The longer the better, I always advise that my clients have about a length of rice worth of hair....funny analogy but they get the picture. Try 3-4 weeks, anything shorter will hurt more and result in your esthi not being able to get all of the hairs.

-Speaking of which...the first time may result in your esthetician not getting every single last hair. It's totally normal if you typically shave. Body hair typically grows on 2-3 different cycles at an uneven rate, so it takes about 1-2 wax sessions for everyone to catch up! If there are a few strays that's fine but if there is a massive patch let her know.

Lastly, I saw someone mentioning sugaring. Sugaring is AWESOME. If anyone is prone to ingrowns and completely at a loss as to what they should do I highly highly recommend converting over to sugaring. Not only is it more gentle on the skin it also prevents ingrowns hairs from occurring. Best of all?! You only need FIVE days worth of hair growth to have it done, so it's excellent for in between waxing appointments if you're honeymoon bound.

They are super painful for me, but you cringe, breathe through it, and come out super smooth. I take my underwear all the way off, put my ankles together, then let my legs fall to the side. Then the technician does her thang. Good luck! It's not pain free for sure

Breathing is huge- and I'm glad I actually have had two technicians who say "deep breathe 1-2- and then rip.

Funny enough- Hubby was like "does it hurt" I looked at him like he had 3 eyeballs- OF COURSE It hurt.

But it wasn't the end of the world.

I'd also recommend- if you truly want some form of Brazillian- go for it. If I had only done a bikini I would have never gone back. the top pubic area hurt THE WORST.

It's the most physically painful thing I've ever experienced. Excruciating pain!! But it is over as soon as they rip it off, so it doesn't last long. I much prefer to shave, because it's totally pain free and I don't suffer from razor bumps. Also with waxing, the hair can't be too short, because then the wax won't be able to catch it. That's another reason I prefer shaving, because I can do a quick little shave every day or every other day and never have to worry about letting my hair grow. I can pretty much keep it hair free always with regular shaving, just like I do with my legs. Much more affordable too.

I was the same, only ever shaved there and had eyebrows waxed.. I got one 3 days before my wedding, we honeymooned in Mexico and I didn't want to have to worry about bikini irritation.. Every other time I've gone to the beach it's been painful to get the little bumps and not be able to shave daily.

I was very happy with the results.. It was very painful, I do have super thick hair though.. Mine started growing back in 2 weeks. I'm glad I did it for our honeymoon, but next time I go to the beach I will most likely just do bikini line and not a full brazillian.
