Bouquet toss....out dated?

So the FH and I met with our DJ the other day and one of his questions is "what song would you like for the bouquet toss?" I had not thought about it. We are not doing the garder toss so why do the bouquet toss? What are you opinions? Is it just a wedding staple or can it be over looked?

We are skipping both. The garter never stood a chance for our reception and after thinking about the bouquet toss, we released most of our friends are already married, so it didn't make a ton of sense.

I didn't do either because I didn't feel like spending the money on a toss bouquet, and if I had thrown mine I surely would have killed someone. That thing seriously weighed like 15 lbs.

Plus we did not have even one single person at my wedding, so the whole thing would have been really stupid.

I don't want to do it, but my FH wants to at least have the bouquet toss. We still have some time to think about it, but I don't prefer it Smiley smile

I have exactly two unmarried gals coming....one is my sister who doesn't ever want to get married, and the other is already engaged to FH's brother. I guess I could just hand FSIL my bouquet, if I choose to have one.

The garter toss originates from the idea of the bride as property. After the marriage consummation was watched and verified, then men would rip pieces of clothing off the bride as a souvenir. So no, won't be doing that.

The bouquet toss is at least less offensive in my head, but again now you're making people line up and complete to catch it for the honour of being next to get married. So no, won't be doing that.

I love pp's idea of giving the bouquet to a beloved relative to enjoy. Love it!

My husband and I are doing both. I would like to keep tradition and he's been watching garter videos. The only thing I'm NOT doing is playing "Single Ladies" for the bouquet toss

The garter toss is sooo gross and I'd rather not ruin my pretty bouquet. So, we are doing without both.

I am not up for the garter toss but I haven't asked FH about if he has any feelings either way. As for the bouquet toss, I've always felt so awkward standing there in front of everyone waiting to catch the bouquet, and even just standing on the "sidelines" watching feels really awkward and kind of stupid. I don't want to make anyone else feel that way.

Plus, most of our friends are already married. However, since we will have many young (teen, early twenties) girls there, I am planning to write a note/prayer and tie it to single flowers to give to these girls. I haven't decided on the logistics of this yet, like if I will still have them line up to hand them out, or what, but that is my plan so far and I am much happier with it.
