Bouquet Toss (or It's Equivalent)

Many years ago guests would rip off pieces of the bride's bouquet to gain good luck. To prevent guests from trampling over the bride women began tossing their bouquets into the crowd and this tradition became known as the bouquet toss. Today most women believe that if they catch the brides bouquet then they are next to be married.
My husband and I wanted to put a spin on this tradition as we don't have a strong connection to flowers, instead we had a watch toss where we tossed a his and hers watch into the crowd to signifiy "it's your time now".
What are your thoughts? Are you doing a bouquet toss or it's equivalent? Why or why not?

We're skipping the bouquet and garter tosses- mostly because we're the last of our friends to get married. But my circle of girlfriends have a rubber chicken we pass around amongst us and this time it's my turn!

We are skipping the bouquet toss and garter toss (I am not a big fan of them at weddings and don’t participate). In lieu of that we are going the “anniversary dance” and I am giving my toss bouquet to the wife of the last couple standing.

This is a very interesting response. I have actually been to a handful of weddings that did this instead of the bouquet toss and I have never seen anyone offended by it, recently divorced or not. My grandparents won at my cousin’s wedding and they got a cute little trophy along with passing on marriage advice. I personally won’t be doing this but it’s a cute idea.

That's very interesting history on the origins of the bouquet toss!
We are going to toss the bouquet as we are leaving the reception, our coordinator said this was also a traditional way of tossing the bouquet.

I like your creativity! However, I have been to many receptions where the guys all scatter when the garter is tossed, jokingly wanting to retain their "bachelor" status. If a watch hits the floor, it will probably break! Just something to keep in mind!

Thank you. Really? Both the guys and girls were really into our watch toss. We threw empty boxes and then let the winners put the watches on each other.

I was the complete opposite when planning my wedding. I practically looked up the purpose of everything and if I didn't agree with it I either didn't do it at all or I came up with an alternative.
