Bouquet Toss (or It's Equivalent)

The Bride, on July 6, 2019 at 12:47 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 51
Many years ago guests would rip off pieces of the bride's bouquet to gain good luck. To prevent guests from trampling over the bride women began tossing their bouquets into the crowd and this tradition became known as the bouquet toss. Today most women believe that if they catch the brides bouquet then they are next to be married.
My husband and I wanted to put a spin on this tradition as we don't have a strong connection to flowers, instead we had a watch toss where we tossed a his and hers watch into the crowd to signifiy "it's your time now".
What are your thoughts? Are you doing a bouquet toss or it's equivalent? Why or why not?

I never knew this but I also never thought to look it up lol. Interesting history. I will be doing it but I will be tossing my trial bouquet not my actual bouquet. I want To keep my bouquet. (Silk flowers)

I have looked this up before.
As far as the bouquet toss. I despise it. I usually go to the restroom toward the end of the mother/son dance and skip it. That's how much I hate it.
    So we aren't doing one.
Mostly because I absolutely hate it.
And when we looked at our guest list, there won't be many single ladies there. (Somewhere around 10)

Yes I don’t hide from it but I spent time on my hair and make up. To get it ruined over some girl fighting over flowers? Plus the fighting over a object.

Not a fan of any of the tosses, personally. Having all of your unmarried female friends group together to fight over flowers just seems weird to me.

I agree 100%! To me, the tosses are outdated. Of course, this would definitely be a know-your-crowd thing!

I don’t want to do a bouquet or garter toss. My FH does tho. He says it’ll be fun, but I’ve never liked them. And I don’t feel like anyone will participate.

I’m more traditional with weddings and still really like the bouquet and garter toss! We’ll be doing both. 😊

My husband and I looked up a lot of wedding traditions as we were planning our wedding and ultimately decided we're just not that traditional. I love the idea of tossing your trial bouquet and keeping the actual one for as a keepsake.

Why do you despise the bouquet toss?

Are you doing anything else in lieu of those two things?

Thank God no one at my wedding fought over the watch that we tossed.

My husband didn't single out the single women because we read that people hate that. Instead, we had all the women on the floor during the "hers" watch toss and all of the men on the floor during the "his" watch toss. Actually, a married woman caught the "hers" watch and to us it represented that it was her time to take her marriage to the next level as opposed to her time to get married.

Are you ultimately going to do it? If so, I think you should put your own spin on it so your guests get excited about it and want to participate.

I'm actually surprised by the number of couples who aren't doing either. I have another discussion about the garter toss and most brides find it awkward.

We’re not doing a bouquet toss and definitely not the garter toss either. They are both super weird and outdated.
