Bouquet Toss (or It's Equivalent)

Many years ago guests would rip off pieces of the bride's bouquet to gain good luck. To prevent guests from trampling over the bride women began tossing their bouquets into the crowd and this tradition became known as the bouquet toss. Many years ago guests would rip off pieces of the bride's bouquet to gain good luck. To prevent guests from trampling over the bride women began tossing their bouquets into the crowd and this tradition became known as the bouquet toss. Today most women believe that if they catch the brides bouquet then they are next to be married.
My husband and I wanted to put a spin on this tradition as we don't have a strong connection to flowers, instead we had a watch toss where we tossed a his and hers watch into the crowd to signifiy "it's your time now".
What are your thoughts? Are you doing a bouquet toss or it's equivalent? Why or why not?

    I told him I would think about it. I mean, it is his day too and I want him to have fun as well. But I really hate the bouquet and garter toss and just feel like it’s a waste of time. I never thought about putting a different spin on it tho.

    I think you should definitely do it if it would make your future husband happy. My husband and I tossed $100 watches instead of the bouquet and garter. Our guests absolutely loved it.

    Singling out a bunch of single women and throwing flowers to them and having them fight over it? No thanks. Having your husband put his face up inside your dress to take off a garter in front of parents, grandparents, and other family members? Gross, no thanks.

    I also did not find value in tossing a bouquet of flowers to single women and I believe the garter removal is too sexualized for my family members to witness. In lieu of those traditions my husband and I threw a "his" and "hers" watch to signify it's your time now. We did not single out the single men and women, the floor was open to all men and all women.

    I'm not quite sure.
    I think it has to do with spending the better part of my 20s single.
    And the photographer at my best friends wedding being really rude to me and telling me I was in her way and needed fo move during the bouquet toss.
    Plus I'm fairly tall and big and my presence is already extremely noticable. Drawing more attention to myself by being one of very few people out there catching a bouquet is a nightmare to me. Lol.

    We’re skipping this tradition and doing something a little different. We’re having all the married couples get on the dance floor. Then we’re going to eliminate each couple by the years of marriage until we have the longest married couple on the floor. I’ll then present them with my toss bouquet. They will also give us advice for a long marriage.

    I find a guy putting his hand up my leg creepy. As to bouquet toss, I fine it can get ugly, especially when people "encourage" single women to get up. It can be humiliating. Guess what, just because you are now married, it does not give you the right to humiliate people who are not married. The worst I ever saw was when the MOG actually tried to pull up a 62 YO widow to the bouquet toss.

    I hope you do not have any recently divorced guests. This can be upsetting, and IMHO, is not good hosting.

    None of our guests are resent divorced. That’s one thing we consider when we thought about doing this.

    I completely understand. Thanks for sharing.
    I wanted my "watch toss" to be a fun moment where no one was left out or felt put on the spot. I'm glad we put a twist on the tradition. All my guests were happy.

    I hate both traditions. Especially the garter toss. Him going up my dress on front of my family especially older ones seem so inappropriate to me. Very awkward. My fiancé is very traditional and can’t see a wedding without it. So I’m going to put it in my ankle. The bouquet toss. Also he claims is a must. I’m trying to find an alternative.

    My husband and I swapped out the traditional bouquet toss and garter toss for our watch toss that I mentioned in the description of this post. My guests that it was a great alternative.
