Bought his wedding band and its too big- no returns

Michelle, on May 19, 2020 at 12:56 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 18
So since all the jewlers are closed for in store I bought his ring from the Jeweler online. He told what size he was so thats the size I ordered and it falls right off his finger. I called the jeweler customer service and they told me that because of the metal type I cannot have it sized and no returns. I can do an in-store exchange but they are not open. A happy moment just turned sad.

You can get some ring sizers or adjusters or whatever that can add to the ring to make it fit better

After I talked to my MOH she mentioned just selling it and using the money to buy him the correct size. These stores being closed is killing me.

Can you just wait until the store reopens to exchange it? If the date on your profile is correct, you have over a year before your wedding.

We just heard a few days ago that the in store stores are closing and shifting to online only. After this Covid thing I really don't know what stores will remain open.

Will they allow you to do a mail-in exchange? I understand the no refunds, but what difference does it make to them if you ship the big band back and they ship you a smaller size? Is this a major retailer?

The jeweler said that alot of orders have been delayed on shipping since January and maybe even longer. Thats one reason why I would feel better if we had the rings in the safe even being so far out.

I asked that question and they said they do not do returns or exchanges via online. She told me if it was a different type of metal then we could have it sized but this type its either in store or just buy a new ring. Its very frustrating.

That's most likely because of closures in China. Most jewelry factories are in Hong Kong. My mom is in the jewelry business so I'm a bit familiar with the process. The COVID closures happened pretty much right after everything was already closed for a month for Chinese New Year, so everything got pushed back by a lot.

Yeah, tungsten can't be resized. It just breaks if you try to cut it. If they are closing all of their stores permanently than they need to allow for online refunds. I would insist on talking to a manager and push back a bit. If the policy makes it literally impossible to return and exchange a product, that's just ridiculous.

I asked them that very question. They literally told me that they do not do exchanges by mail. I told them I want the same exact ring but just in a smaller size and I was told that I could purchase another ring in that size.It is through Fred Meyer Jeweler, from what I was told many stores are closing and converting to online. It truly sucks but I may have no other option besides just buying a new ring and somehow trying to sell the one I have. Its a very nice ring.

If it were me then that may be an option but I dont think he will be comfortable with an adjuster...with the width and thickness of the ring I dont even know if that is an option. I would rather it fir properly instead of risking it falling off.

I would try to talk to the bank you used to buy the ring. I think you could do a chargeback since they are refusing refunds or exchanges and that’s due to the coronavirus since you can’t go in store anymore. Banks have been very helpful in getting money back if a service couldn’t be performed due to the coronavirus (for example my gym charged me for a full month of membership two days before they closed due to stay at home orders, and they had no CS to get a refund so the bank took care of it).
It’s worth a try if you can’t get it exchanged, which is just ridiculous

When you talk to your bank tell them you don’t want to keep your ring and you’d be more than willing to return it once you get the money back, and then send it back to the store. Idk haha but hopefully your bank can help or will make the store actually open to helping!

DH got a Tungsten ring, but his site allowed him to return and resize.

We do have a warning for Tungsten - because it canNOT be cut easily, they do not recommend wearing it while doing any major kind of work by hand. DH got silicone rings to wear when he has to work/carry heavy things/etc. just for safety. They are cheap and on Amazon, but something to keep in mind for Tungsten.
