Booking Honeymoon Through Travelocity

Jessica, on March 30, 2011 at 10:17 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 15

Has anyone booked a vacation through Travelocity before? Did you have any problems or not? We were going to book our honeymoon to Hawaii through them, but then I read some not so great reviews. Now I am worried as to if they're the right place to book through. They are the cheapest, but I also don't want to end up dealing with problems during our honeymoon.

Hhmmm...not sure & probably not much help, but we just booked our honeymoon to Aruba through Travelocity for July. I usually book my airline tickets through them or Expedia and have never had any issues. Although, I have heard recently that they are better than Expedia.

Have u tried either www.cheapcarribean.com or www.allinclusiveoutlet.com ? We have booked with both, and for what we have booked, I found them cheaper than travelocity.

I work in the luxury hotel industry and I can tell you that guests that book thru travelocity/ expedia etc are the lowest priority. They are the first to get walked if the hotel sells out and get the 'last sell' rooms otherwise (ADA, smoking, low floor, near elevators etc) that's not to say that if a hotel is at 50% they're going to give you a crap room- but thought this might help.

I booked through traveloicity and had a great vacation. For our honeymoon we used bookit.com. They had really good deals

    Hi Jessica,
Call a travel professional and let them know what you would like to do. Tell them what you found....be upfront and sharing with all your information.

If you want, just cut and paste your itinerary and send it off to them if you want...
    - Ask their pricing on the itinerary
    - Ask their opinion on the property
    - Ask if they have other options

If the pricing is the same...one huge thing an agent offers is that we typically only ask for a deposit with final payment being due 45 days prior to your trip....and we are people....who really live and breath by the satisfaction of the couples we book.

Good Luck...and I do hope you give an agent a try. *****@*****************.*** or *****@*****************.***

Erica is in Hawaii right now on property inspections and 3 islands visits!

    Happy Honeymooning!

    Bonnie

I will echo Ashlee's sentiments. Fortunately for you, you are honeymooning in August, your chances of being "bumped" are small. Cheap Carribean does price match and usually has an on site rep, which offers the best of both worlds. Liberty Travel offers an "agent" and price matches. However, their version of an "agent"...??? If I know more than my travel rep, I am skeptical. I love booking Apple Vacations. I also love booking with agents who sell only Apple Vacations and keep only specific hotels in their portfolio. It usually translats into hands on treatment to their clients.

We are travel junkies. There is a time when booking online(Orbitz&CC) and cheaply works out well - my average yearly trip to the Carribean. There are other times that I would never leave to chance and put it into the hands of a travel professional....a honeymoon is one of them. Also, please buy "Cancel for Any Reason" insurance.

My opinion is probably biased, but here's why I don't recommend an online site for a trip as important as a honeymoon. Here's why...

    1. When you work with a travel professional, they are staking their professional reputation on the outcome of your trip. Online sites are happy to relieve you of several thousand dollars without ever knowing if its the right trip for you or not.

    2. a good travel professional will have your back, and look out for things like flight connection times, upgrades, and more. No online site will ever keep an eye out for a sale that occurs after your trip has been booked.

    3. Online sites are notorious for overselling inventory, resulting in you getting bumped upon arrival.

    4. We're able to offer "cancel for any reason" protection that allows for a full refund, even on published air, if you have to cancel. With an online site, you'll get a voucher for future travel.

    5. Using an agent doesn't cost more than doing it all by yourself. Check out our blog for more

I did once and will never, ever do it again. Long story short, but I KNEW for a fact that it cost more to have the hotel room booked through travelocity than just going directly through the hotel. I was sooo mad.

That was before I met my fiance, whose mother is a travel agent. Their commission doesn't add to the price, seriously. I would try contacting an agent first. It's more legit, and you can get perks like upgrades and insurance.

I am planning to use a travel agent. They can get you good prices and also request specials and or upgrades for you because you are on your honeymoon, that you sometimes can't find or book for yourself through a website.

I used to work at a hotel and the biggest problem with booking rooms with sites like those is that your room type you request is not guaranteed...because those sites buy the unused rooms...the specific room type requests go to people who book specifcally through the hotel first....so people who book through sites like that get left over rooms :/

Www.gohawaii.com is an excellent resource but you should definitely use a travel agent to book your honeymoon; in the event something goes wrong you need a contact person who can immediately resolve any problem. When I booked my clients Hawaii honeymoon/cruise there was an issue with the seating, my couple contacted me directly and I was able to make the change in seating by the time they arrived at the airport.

We used travelocity to book our pre-wedding resort stay. We ended up paying the resorts advertised prices, it was just easier to use travelocity than the annoying site the resort uses for their online reservations. I can't imagine if I am paying the advertised rates that I will get any less professional treatment. I did call the resort later on to confirm our reservations and they had all the correct info and even said I could request a specific room if I wanted. I have also contacted them for other wedding inquiries and they have been very helpful. Everything seems on the up and up so far. *searching for wood to knock on*
