Booking hair and makeup for wedding! Do you do trial first before signing contract?

Stephanie, on July 1, 2020 at 3:02 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 2 18
Not sure what the correct process is- I don’t want to risk it but not sure what other brides are doing? Thanks

I did two trials before booking, one was $100 and one was $80. I just wanted to be sure I liked them before booking. I did another trial (another $80) right before the wedding too.

I booked mine before I did a trail. My photographer recommended her for our engagement photos and when the other artists I was talking to ghosted me I asked her to do my hair and makeup for my wedding. I signed the contract about a month before our engagement shoot

I didn’t do a trial before I booked and most brides that I know didn’t either.

Most definitely do a trial! This should be included in the final price for day of hair and makeup.

I booked, signed the contract, and did the trial several months later. I timed my trial for the day of my bridal shower

I just booked mine and sign our contract but she came VERY highly recommended so I trust her. Also when communicating with her, it was easy and we just got along!! I'll be doing a trial here soon to make sure I like the look!! If you want to do a trial then you can!!

I did not do a trial first. I booked my hair/makeup artist first, and am planning to do a trial later, closer to my wedding. The pricing was right, and her portfolio was great, so I felt confident enough in booking her first and doing the trial later.

I booked without a trial bc it seemed like that was the only option. But it worked out wonderfully and when we had my trial I could give her some adjustments so my wedding day look was perfect.

I didn’t and most people I know didn’t do a trial before booking. Hair and makeup artists book up a year or so out and most don’t want to do a trial till closer to your date.

Definitely get a trial before you sign the contract. You don't blindly sign for other services (caterer, etc) without getting a consultation/tasting/etc beforehand and hair/makeup is no different.

Do the trial first and then sign the contract after. Wait until a few days later see your hair and make up in different lighting and in real life

Hmm I wonder if this is a regional thing. I followed a few makeup artist and hair stylists on Instagram. I picked base on their reputation and their Instagram accounts

Mine is a DW so I booked hair and makeup with no trial ever. 😏 I’m going to do trials with someone local to get the look I want and then have pictures to show the hair and makeup people for my wedding. Fingers crossed it all goes well.

Do the trial first. If you sign a contract & then don’t like how it turns out, your bound by the contract. My trial (for both hair & makeup) took almost 3 hours. They need time to assess your skin & hair to see what works best for you. Now on the big day it won’t take as long. Love her! Booking hair and makeup for wedding! I booked mine before the trials. It was very difficult to find someone available, and I had to hire 2 (separate) makeup artist and a hair stylist. The stylist I have worked with before at my salon so I know and trust her. I like the makeup artists work that I’ve seen and her personality so fingers crossed for my makeup trial! That will be scheduled next month hopefully.
