Booking a Venue Without Seeing It

Ashley, on April 22, 2020 at 2:00 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

I'm recently engaged and trying to look at venues during the craziness of everything going on. We have been looking and emailing venues and we really like one particular venue. It is in our budget and is really pretty and offers a lot of what we want. We are unable to look at the venue in person at the moment due to coronavirus, but we want to book a venue before we miss out on a date. They do have a virtual tour online, but are we insane to book a venue without seeing it in person?

If the virtual tour shows you everything (like a 360 model or a video) then go for it, but if it’s just a bunch of photos then be cautious. I really liked one venue based on the photos they had put up but when we visited we found out there was a playground between the ceremony barn and the reception area (the venue operates primarily as an after school daycare and summer camp)! We are not kid people and will only have our one year old niece at our wedding so this was a major deal breaker. Just be cautious and get as much info/photo/video as you can!

Before covid-19 we booked our venue in North Carolina without seeing it in person because it’s a destination wedding. We had my future in laws tour it before we officially booked though.

No, I feel like this will be common especially for brides getting married within the next year. A lot venues do have a 3D tour available but I would also check YouTube to see if there's any wedding videos from past couple who have been married there. Wedding videos and reviews are what really pushed me to pick our venue. Good Luck on your venue hunt, and congrats!

Not insane at all! You’d be surprised that a lot of couples do. I didn’t have a choice for instance since my wedding is destination in Mexico so I just went off of pics and videos I found online.

Sometimes we don't have a choice, but to book a venue without seeing it. If you do just make sure you look into the contract in case you find something better & want to cancel your reservation. We're looking into venues & can't look at anything until a few weeks from now so all we have to go on is pictures. Luckily, I live in the city where most of the ones are so I can at least drive by to see the outside. If they have 3d tours that's great, but also be sure to look into reviews before making that final decision.

I booked my venue without seeing it in person because I live in a different state. I used the virtual tour and gallery to make my choice and I don't feel nervous about it at all.
