BM dress doesn't fit - 71 days out

Taylor, on August 18, 2017 at 7:30 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

All of the BMs were measured for their dresses and later went home and bought them online (cheaper that way). This was in May, as it takes 4 months to get the dresses. A few days ago, one of my BM told me she's panicking because she ordered 2 sizes smaller than what she was measured for because she didn't realize bridal sizes were so different from street clothes sizes. Well the dress came in today and it doesn't fit. I get married in 2 months, so there's no time to order a new one. I'm not sure what to do. Do you have any advice?

See if it can be altered, buy it off the rack, buy a similar dress off the rack.

    (1) Can she switch the back for a corset one?

    (2) Can she get the same color dress, just a different style from another vendor?

    (3) Can she check on a website for pre-owned dresses to see if one is posted in her size (rare but possible)?

Find another dress online that goes with the other ones. Show us a pic of the dress. How many other BMs are there? Do they all match

Why would she do that? That really stinks ... some places have standard sizes that come in, in less time than if you custom measure... or you can try some consignment sites. I'm sorry you're dealing with this.

Take it to a seamstress to see what can be done to make it fit, see if another store can get a new one faster in her correct size, go searching for a new dress in the same color that she can buy off the rack...there are options!

So I have one MOH and two BM and I told them I'd like the dresses to be a burgundy color but I don't care the style or length or anything. Well when we went looking for dresses (2 of them could come), they picked the same dress. But I still told the other one she could do whatever she wants. She wanted to get a cheap dress (again, I said it was totally fine) but then she ended up ordering the same dress because she thought it would look weird with 2 matching and her not. So I'm going to feel like such an ass if we have to get the other bridesmaid a totally different dress when that's what the other one wanted to do in the first place. I just hope she understands it was totally out of ny control. Here's the dress they picked out

I really don't get the whole "Bridal sizes" thing. All of my bridesmaids ordered in their sizes and they all fit. I ordered a 2 for my dress and it was actually big on me.

Your bridesmaid ordered her dress 2 sizes smaller than she was measured for. That's not Bridal sizes being different from street clothes. That's her not ordering in the size she was told.

@FaithD_2017 She was measured for a size and ended up ordering her street clothes size which happened to be 2 sizes smaller than what she was measured for. Every appointment I had for a BM and now a bride, I measured bigger than what I wear in street clothes. Glad yours worked out.

Dresses can usually be taken in or let out 2 sizes

Bridal sizes are definitely a thing...

But anyway that's crappy that your bridesmaid would order differently than what she was measured for. I think you got some good suggestions already though! Maybe post the dress so we can help you?

ETA: I see you posted a pic. What's the website/designer/style?

They weren't open yesterday, but we're going to the store today to see if that's possible if we'd get it in time

Thank you for all of the ideas, when she told me I just couldn't believe it. Why do people do such weird things?!
