Blunt Response Card Wording

Future Mrs., on May 7, 2013 at 6:59 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18

Has anyone ever seen some really blunt wording on response cards? I've seen 'RSVP is limited to invited guests?' or 'if we don't receive an RSVP, we will assume you're not attending'?

I havent seen that.. but I should've -_-. I just reviewed my responses... only 32 have responded and 62 haven't told me crap!!!!!!!!!! they have 12days till their deadline.. then phone calls will start happening. *sighs* what's so freakin hard about clicking yes or no on the wedding website?

No, and if I did, there's a good chance I wouldn't go to the wedding. Also, if you say "if you don't respond, we'll assume you're not coming", then you probably won't get any "nos" (why would they bother?)

Why is " RSVP is limited to invited guests" blunt? Isn't that sorta assumed?

@out the window, yes. Someone I know did this and when she put that, she meant as in "the person you're bringing has to be someone already on the guest list" type of deal.

@Barbara L. yeah I wasn't sure about that wording either. It was what was on a response card I received.

I personally put some "blunt wording" on my response card, mainly because I am VERY limited on how many people I can have, and I am paying by the head, so it is very important for us to have a count. My wording is something like this: Please RSVP by such and such date or you must bring a chair and a sandwich Smiley smile. I don't think it is rude in the sense that it basically tells them they can still come....but space is limited and knowing in advance is important. You also have to consider how well these people know you and what kind of personalities they have before sending them something like that. Lets face it though, everyone has an opinion and at least one person is going to find some part of your wedding to be rude, unsatisfactory, etc.

I'm not sure the "RSVP is limited to invited guests" is really blunt or rude? I'll be doing the we have _ number of seats reserved for you, so that no one tries to get sneaky and add on people.

Wouldn't that just mean if you invited Mr. Yahoo and Ms. Google and they broke up then Mr. Yahoo couldn't bring Ms. Bing with him just because he wants a plus one?

The we'll assume you aren't coming thing is sort of silly because then you won't know if people meant to return and RSVP card or they were just not returning it to tell you they weren't coming. I think you are sort of shooting yourself in the foot with that one.

Edited to fix it so that my example peeps weren't all committing adultery. Thx Barbara!

Out the Window - it would be, I can totally see why they would break up. Not meant to be.

@Kristina, I think when humor is used it's okay. I'm just against assuming the worst in guests before they've even accepted the invitation.

and @CeCe-- a ton of couples don't give blanket plus ones, so no, Mr. Yahoo should not necessarily be allowed to bring Mrs. Bing (though, I hope you meant 'Ms.'!), particularly if the wedding is very small and the couple does not want to have any strangers in attendance.

People are insane, really. I don't get this RSVP foot dragging.

I think blunt language is more effective when it's funny (as opposed to insulting....)

Yes! ______ and ________ are coming! (put the names in there)

Yes, but sadly only ________ can come

Rats! Neither _____ or _______ can join you.

I like Krisina's response. If I could say what I wanted?

"We've arranged for food, liquor, entertainment, laughter, tears and artisinal honey in tiny hand blown jars. The least you can do is ^@6@^)(*!&*($_(7$*(! send the RSVP back in time. If you don't, we'll all talk about you. And we'll eat your honey.

Think the invite is not the place for it although I like the wording Celia suggested and maybe adding a funny line like

Oops, _____ forgot to RSVP, so are not attending

Oops, _____ forgot to RSVP but are attending anyway and bringing their own food, drink and chair.

In reality, I think the best place to stress the important of the RSVP is on your website and not on the invite.

I am being super polite with everybody for this stuff so far but a deadline is a deadline. And we make it all so easy for people. Which is I don't get why it seems to be so hard for people. the RSVP cards even have envelopes to send them back in that are already stamped and have my address on them. They may have to drive or fly but we are providing food, alcohol and dancing for them plus the hotel we are using shuttles people to and from the hotel to the venue and the airport. Its basicly a family reunion, at least as my family is taking it as since 90% of the people invited are from our families.

I just got one that says "Please only include the names of guests whose names appear on the envelope."

Idk. I don't really get why the whole RSVP thing is such a big deal. I didn't stress about it until after my deadline. Then, I just contacted the people that didn't respond. It really wasn't that difficult.

I'm not having RSVP cards. My family will never return their cards even if I include a stamp for them. I'm putting a card in there that says to call, text, email, or facebook message me (some of my family acts like facebook is the only way to stay in touch). That way when they contact me I can easily reply quickly and ask who all will be attending with them!

I like Kristina Bs wording. If I received that I would crack up.

I also don't want to stress over the RSVPs.

"Please RSVP by such and such date or you must bring a chair and a sandwich Smiley smile"

I LOVE this. Wish I'd thought of it! =)

We were a bit blunt.. "We have reserved 2 seats in your honor."

"Will attend with pleasure as a party of ___ of 2."

It's worked so far.. guess we'll find out at the wedding. xD
