Blankets as Favors - Thoughts?

Even before FH and I got engaged, we knew we wanted a fall wedding. I also knew, I'd want throw blankets as favors - I imagined them rolled neatly on the ceremony chairs with a tag that read, "To have and to hold, in case you get cold - A gift from the Bride and the Groom" I've been diligently...

Even before FH and I got engaged, we knew we wanted a fall wedding. I also knew, I'd want throw blankets as favors - I imagined them rolled neatly on the ceremony chairs with a tag that read, "To have and to hold, in case you get cold - A gift from the Bride and the Groom"

I've been diligently researching options that fit my vision, trying to find ones in my budget, and picking a few back up options in case I can't.

Herein lies my dilemma, in this research I ran across a Knot post talking about blankets as favors and so many people talked about how awful an idea it was - that they'd "probably use it to dry off the dog" or "block cold air from the doorway" or "just leave them, why do I need another blanket" I felt my heart plummet as I realized that this could be true, that even though I'm putting my heart into finding quality items, they may be thrown out.

What do you all think? Am I wasting my time?

I love the idea of it and would actually be really excited about it as I am always curled up on my couch with a blanket and I live in Florida! The sad realization is that favors get left behind, but not because they're not appreciated by guests but just because they get tired, or have a lot to carry, or maybe the kids are being unruly. I agree with K.M though; if they get left behind, just donate them! It's still a sweet gesture either way!

I buy dozens of the inexpensive fleece at Walmart black Friday sale - ( $1-$2). I've also purchased the IKEA ones in red/gray for about $5. I use them ALL the time... in the car, my office, for the dogs, for guests (not the same ones!). I keep extra in the "gift closet" and have wrapped gifts with them!

I would totally appreciate this as a favor - but guys won't. If you want to do this, I think the basket idea with a few is the right way to go.

I'm a believer that you can never have too many blankets. I'd keep it! I also think that's different, Ive never seen that as a favor before. Also a good idea to donate the ones left behind to a nursing home

@Special, Ikea has lots of different blankets. We found some gray blankets on sale that go with our theme. But they also have multipliable color ones for about 3.99.

I love blankets, so I would be thrilled!

However, I don't know know that others feel the same way.

We're going to have blankets available at our wedding in case people do want them. We're getting married at a farm venue, and our favors will be jars of jam from the fruits at the farm. You could still do a cute, decorative blanket basket and have other favors. The jam made the most sense to us because people can eat them.

I'd probably just toss it in a closet to be honest.

We are having an outdoor fall wedding and there will be a bonfire later in the evening. I was also thinking about blankets as party favors. Personally, I love blankets and it's not something I've ever seen given as a favor. And I agree with PP's, any that don't get taken, give them to friends, family, or donate to nursing homes or humane societies (puppies are ALWAYS in need of blankets)!

If you heart is set on it, do it. However do not put your faces or names on them. I have learned that personalization is frowned upon here. If people take them that's great. If not, then you can hand them out to homeless people or donate them to a school, nursing home, or shelter. There are plenty of people that could use another blanket.

I would love a blanket, especially if it's soft. I think the suggestion about donating them to a shelter if they're not all taken is a great idea.

The blankets I'm looking at are extremely soft and warm. I'll keep in mind donating them, for sure. Thanks all!

@Ashley, do people really put their faces on blankets? Wow... that is so strange! The only thing I would do is put our name and the date on a removable fabric block that I planned to pin to the corner...

The idea is cute, but to be honest, I would be one of the people who leaves it there or drops it at Goodwill as soon as possible. I would feel like I don't need another blanket, and I don't care for the colors in the picture you have. Maybe stick to using the blanket idea for those in the bridal party, people who have more emotional tie to your ceremony, and choose else for wedding guests in general.

I would keep them as long as they didn't have anything wedding related on them. I'm always cold and love blankets! Maybe if you're worried you can just set them in a chest with the same sign and people can grab one if they want it. Do you mind sharing what blankets you've found to use? We're getting married in the fall and want to have some out in case people get cold. Obviously it'll be inside if it's really cold but I want blankets for those people who think 65 is cold

Here's my thought process on it: The only blanket I'd be happy to get at a wedding is too expensive to ever be a favor. Because it is a favor, and you need a lot, you will look for the cheapest possible and then it's some crappy fleece that I don't want or need.

ETA: Just saw you want FOUR DOLLAR BLANKETS. WHAT?! Hard pass.

OP, idk of people actually put their faces on them, but I know people like to personalize wedding favors, and I know you can have pictures and such put onto blankets, so just thought I would give a heads up no to lol, I'm sure no one would love to use a blanket of me at night hahaha

I appreciate all the advice from everyone!

@Swin, the $4 blankets are from Bulk purchase sites, blankets that in any store elsewhere would sell for much more.

@Soon2bemrs2017, My back ups were from here, the reviews are positive: https://www.amazon.com/Ultra-Fleece-Throw-Blanket-Wholesale/dp/B003WIOKCG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1476987997&sr=8-1&keywords=bulk fleece blanket

    Some others were these:

    https://www.discountmugs.com/product/x100037-personalized-roll-up-blankets/

This one here was my top choice, I made a deal for cheaper shipping with the owner: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TARTAN-CHECK-POLAR-FLEECE-THROW-BLANKET-BLUE-BLACK-PINK-NATURAL-125cm-x-150cm-/311489318405

I agree people won't want to tote them around while they're dancing and mingling, but maybe you could have them parked by the exit, so people could pick them up on their way out? I, for one, can never have enough blankets. For the couch, for my kids, for the airplane, for my side of the bed.
