Blankets as Favors - Thoughts?

Even before FH and I got engaged, we knew we wanted a fall wedding. I also knew, I'd want throw blankets as favors - I imagined them rolled neatly on the ceremony chairs with a tag that read, "To have and to hold, in case you get cold - A gift from the Bride and the Groom" I've been diligently...

Even before FH and I got engaged, we knew we wanted a fall wedding. I also knew, I'd want throw blankets as favors - I imagined them rolled neatly on the ceremony chairs with a tag that read, "To have and to hold, in case you get cold - A gift from the Bride and the Groom"

I've been diligently researching options that fit my vision, trying to find ones in my budget, and picking a few back up options in case I can't.

Herein lies my dilemma, in this research I ran across a Knot post talking about blankets as favors and so many people talked about how awful an idea it was - that they'd "probably use it to dry off the dog" or "block cold air from the doorway" or "just leave them, why do I need another blanket" I felt my heart plummet as I realized that this could be true, that even though I'm putting my heart into finding quality items, they may be thrown out.

What do you all think? Am I wasting my time?

@lex where do you live where you would have a outside wedding in December?

Maybe get like half of the amount and put them in a big basket or something along those lines. Like people said, favors do tend to get left behind.

I, however, would take 10 because I love blankets lol.

I'm a blanket hoarder, so I would take mine home. And FH's. And anyone's who left it behind.

I'm with @MNA on this one. As long as it isn't personalized with your wedding info, I would love having another blanket. I can never have enough blankets. Just be warned that others may not feel the same way and you might have quite a few left over.

Wow, thanks so much for all the responses! To clarify, my intentions was to use safety pins with a little tag that said our names and the date, so they could be removed. I agree that having something embroidered is taking it too far, I'm not even a fan of them in my own home.

Only buying one per couple was also an idea, though I have a few single guests, so I guess they would get one to themselves.

I've got about $400 allotted for favors so the Fleece Blankets in the second picture amount to about $3.95 a blanket and I could easily do one per person or the tartan blankets in the first image are closer to $9 and would have to do one per couple.

My other idea if this all turned out to be too expensive was to have a create your own s'mores box on the way out - Graham Crackers, Oreos, Hersheys, Peanut butter chips and marshmallows with hot chocolate/tea/coffee packets that have our names and the date on them. A personalized snack I don't mind, the wrapper will be thrown out...

I think it's a cute idea and I would definetly take a blanket home but if I had to cut something from my budget it would be the first to go.

@York, Texas. December is always a toss up for us. Last year, the weather wasn't bad and the ceremony was only about 25 mins or so. I hoping for similar weather for my wedding.

I'm always cold and I personally love the blanket idea.

You can expect even more blankets to be left behind if they are those cheapo fleece ones. :-/

Just no. No one wants a 4.00 blanket.

I would either do a more limited selection of the more expensive ones or the s'mores kit. Even though I use a lot of blankets, I doubt I would use the thin fleece ones

I love blankets, so I would be sure to take mine home with me. But generally non-edible favors are left behind. I would just hate to spend the money on the blankets just to have several left behind.

So with any favor there will be some left behind. Even edible favors, there will be some people who can't eat sugar, carbs, nuts, etc. The key with favors is to choose something you won't mind having extras of. Will you be heartbroken if you have extra blankets after the wedding? If yes, don't do it, spare yourself the heartbreak.

Personally, I would take home the blanket. I would put it in the linen closet and use it when guests visit or when the house gets chilly. It would get more use if it was machine washable. I actually have a cheap giveaway fleece blanket that gets lots of use. It's also nice to have extras for picnics. If you really want to do this idea, I think the suggestion to get fewer nicer blankets and set them up in a basket instead of on the seats is the best way to do this. The people who want them will get a higher quality blanket, and the people who don't won't be stuck figuring out what to do with a blanket on their seat.

I am doing the same. My wedding is December 11th, at an outdoor Chapel, but in Texas. It could be 80 or the 66 they are predicting. Once I thought about that idea as favors, I knew how I wanted to do them... years ago as a gift my daughters step-mom and her mom made all of , including 9 children, fleece blankets like you pictures, except the fringe was thicker. We used them SO much... I mean all the time. They were perfect as a throw on movie night. Or if a kid had a fever and could only have a light blanket. Over the years and moves we don't have but maybe 1 or 2 left, but they held up really well, and I loved them. So next month I am going to go get some fleece in black, tan, ivory, burgundy and dark green. And then as we have our own TV time or movie night, we're gonna sit and work on one a night till we knock out all 20!! I had planned to have them rolled at the end of the benches, but hadn't thought of the cute note!! I might just have to steal the idea Smiley winking LOL

ETA: My ceremony is short n sweet, then we'll all head to our cars to go have a celebratory dinner, so my guests can just put them in the car. I'm also doing those little $1 gloves with them too... just in case.

I would LOVE to get a cute throw blanket at a wedding. But i'm also blanket obsessed. Like I wear blanket scarves daily.

It may end up costing a lot to do this though - that would be my only hesitation.

I had a friend who did snuggies as a favor every single one got snatched up. Normally I'm not a fan of non-edible favors, but blankets/throws/soft warm squishy things are an exception.
