Black bridesmaids dresses for a July wedding??

TripleRock6601, on August 28, 2015 at 10:34 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

I really love the idea of my bridesmaids being able to pick their own dresses. I think it makes it more comfortable for them to wear, as well as fit within their personal budget. Black seemed like the obvious choice since no matter what they choose, the color will match (for the most part - I get textures can throw it off a little).

Our color scheme is black/white/silver with pops of fuchsia (now - the color scheme may also need to be re-visited, but our venue has great colored lighting, which is why I didn't want to make things too colorful). I think I want the bouquets to be fuchsia to give the look more color. But, does anyone have an opinion on a black bridesmaid dress for a summer wedding? Is it too drab? or, has anyone had success letting their bridesmaids pick their dresses with a color besides black??

Side note - I am planning my wedding out of state, so I haven't seen the venue yet (just pictures)! My parents and aunt scouted it out for me, which is making the color choices more difficult.

I will see it before the wedding, but maybe not before STD are sent or invitations are chosen, so I was hoping to have a theme selected before then!

I think it's fine..black is classic.. just keep them short.

I know some brides on here had girls pick their own dresses in many different colors..and honestly it always works out even if the colors aren't exact, kind gives an ombre look.

Thank you for the reassurance! I do think shorter would make it more appropriate. The ombre effect could be cool too...I may have to think about that!

I like it! But yes, I'd keep it short.

Celadon or sage green dresses also look great with flowers, as do dark grey ones. I'm seeing a lot of that this summer.

My colors were black and white. My bridesmaids and also mother of the bride and groom dresses were black. It was very classic, waiting for pro pics to see how everything turned out.

I absolutely love black for bridesmaid dresses. You can even get the girls fuchsia fashion jewelry, which would look so cute (since you just want small pops of color, you could just get small pieces, nothing chunky and gaudy)! My mom's cousin had long black dresses for her October wedding with hints of hot pink, and I thought it looked really pretty and unique- pink bouquets, shoes, and jewelry, and decorations (but not tacky looking with too much of it). Black would look fine for a summer wedding as long as it's accessorized right.

Like FMM said, hopefully they all pick short dresses. But since you're allowing them to pick their own dresses, it's on them if they pick materials/lengths that are too warm. Hopefully they pick short, light, and breezy!

Thank you, all! Personally, I've always liked black bridesmaids dresses, but I have seen so many gorgeous summer wedding pictures with a lot more whimsical colored bridesmaid dresses. It's made me question my decision! I want it to be classic and cohesive, but still fun!

    Edited for spelling.

I let my bridesmaids choose their own little black dresses for bridesmaid dresses. I liked it because I didn't have to worry about shades or anything, and my girls loved it because they have a brand new LBD.

My BMs are wearing black and they love them. And they all looks awesome in them too. Mine are long because I'm getting married in October but if you do short with bright flowers and jewelry it will look great!

@Tara I love that look! So glad we did black! Our colors are Black, darks reds and grey.

I have seen white BM dresses pulled off as well, if you're open to that.

But black is always appropriate IMO.
