Black Brides - Wedding/honeymoon Style Help

Laquita, on July 14, 2020 at 1:50 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 16

I know my wedding is a year away, but obviously not too soon to think about the style I want especially as I'm looking into makeup & hair stylists. I was thinking of getting a sew-in, but am thinking about how this will do on our honeymoon (we're planning a 7 day Caribbean cruise to St. Thomas & St. Maarten). I typically wear box braids for my vacations as it's low maintenance & easy to wash without messing up (my hair is very thick & cornrows+anything similar don't hold up well for me). The wedding is July 25 and we leave for our cruise July 30 so while there's a few days in between, I'd also hate to drop $$$ on multiple styles like that.

If I do a weave, which type of hair would hold up if I got it wet & will be a little lower maintenance?

I know it sounds like a lot, but I’d go with your idea of getting braids after the wedding. My concern is that, since your hair is thick and cornrows don’t hold up for you, getting the weave wet might be troublesome on a week long cruise.

It all depends on the style you get. I wear extensions regularly and I will be getting a good extension product before the day and I will ask my HMUA her recommendations. Since our planned honeymoon is one week after our intimate ceremony I plan on just keeping my sew in as I can still wash it. I would not suggest braiding for extensions for the wedding then rebraiding right after for the honeymoon. Sew ins last me 2 months and I wash my own hair because I am not going to pay my hair dresser each time to wash my hair lol. Have you considered micros and then do an up do? Maybe a wig for the wedding in a cute style then box braids for the vacation?

I’ve thought about this as well. I’ll be doing a wig so I can take it on and off for the honeymoon but still be cute for our honeymoon dinners and date nights!

I probably should have said just simple cornrows never work out, but a weave should be ok? The money part where I was really looking at, that's quite a bit within a couple of weeks.

I was curious about which extension hair could get wet & still look good. If I could just get one hairstyle that'll be fine for the wedding & the honeymoon, I'd be grateful.

Any human hair. You treat it like regular hair. I wash and dry it adding setting lotion and you can style it with a curling iron or flat iron and style as normal. Usually the ones that cost more are better quality. Brazilian, indian, malaysian, peruvian hair are good. I would ask your hair dresser which brand she recommends.

Oh cool! Then you should be fine. I love my weaves, even though I haven’t had one for a while because I was rocking braids often on for the last year. But I’m getting a weave for the wedding so that it could last through the honeymoon as well.

Ha! Yes, I love my wigs. They are so simple and easy. It’s one of the reasons why I stopped getting weaves. Wigs these days have increased in style/quality. Plus I love being able to take it off at night and quickly switch styles.

I don't have a regular hairdresser as I'm pretty picky on who does my hair, but may try the one who did my vacation hair last year. When I talk to her, I at least wanted to know what I wanted when I ask. I knew I'd have to spend some money if I wanted something that lasts.

I'm similar, it's been a few years since I last had a weave. I've been just getting braids lately to let my hair grow more.

I figured a nice weave would be a good idea to do something different from braids & it should last throughout the honeymoon.

Are you adding a closure or a frontal to the sew-in? I have the same concerns because we are going on a cruise after our wedding too in June next year. I bought a frontal but I’m not sure how that will last on vacation. I figured getting it wet will cause it to lift.

I would think a closure, but then a frontal has more versatility especially for the wedding.

Definitely! I love how you can switch up the part if you want to on a frontal

Hmm perhaps I will go with a weave (just have to find really good hair) and get a frontal, I'll have to ask the hairdresser about what I should do if I get my hair wet (I don't plan on it though).
