Black and white wedding in summer???

Katie , on July 31, 2008 at 4:19 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

I am getting married next July and originally i wanted brown and pink for my wedding colors. Then i thought that the brown would look horrible against the men wearing black so then i decided just pink either a dark pink or a light pink, because i really like the bouquets to be bright pink and orange roses. Now I am wondering if i could put my girls in black dresses with a pink sash or a white sash and have the flowers really pop out, my one friend thinks im crazy for putting the girls in black for a summer wedding what should i do?

I had a B/W with accents of red themed wedding in July as well. It was outdoors in the evening so the sun wasn't scortching. Anyway, I think as long as they wear tea length dresses they should be fine, consider strapless or spaghetti straps. In anycase the one who would be burning would be YOU, even though the dress is white, there's lots of layers involved. What I love about B/W is that any other color goes perfect!! Consider alternating colors like some can wear black and some can wear whatever accent color you choose. I had two bridesmaids where black, and then my sister and MOH wore a shade of red. The flowers will pop out no matter what accent color you decide to go with. It'll make for a very elegant look! Im all for B/W, but I am only being biased, cause I love b/w. Good Luck, and they will be ok...trust me!

    Hi Katie,

Black and white are VERY in for ****. If you use black and white for most of your colors (such as dresses, linens, chairs, etc), your flowers will definitely pop. I think the bright pinks and oranges are a great choice for summer. Consider them your "flair". Smiley smile I would advise having tea length black dresses. Be sure to check out sites like J. Crew if you want to go for a more modern and non-traditional look.

    Good Luck!

I went to a wedding this summer where the bridesmdaids wore brown dresses and the groomsmen wore black tuxes - it actually looked nice, and I am typically against mixing brown and black. You can use the vest and tie for accent colors. Also, a lot of companies offer brown suit/tux options. Check with local companies to see what they have.

I think black and white or even black and pink would be beautiful! I don't think it matters if it will be summer or not. I think black makes everything stand out better and it looks elegant. So go for it! Smiley smile

You don't have to stick with only 2 colors... you can have several. I would go with black and white and a color to keep it bright for summer. Black & white with yellow is super chic and in right now. I happen to really like black, white and pink. So stick with pink if you would like.

My wedding colors are chocolate, eggplant and chartreuse - but, I am still putting the Ben in black vests/ties to keep it modern and sharp. I'm mainly doing this since purple is such a hard color to match.

I am a firm believer that not everything has to be matchy, matchy anymore...

Hi Katie K! Nothing beats black and white for all-out elegance and sophistication, any time of year. Lately, we're seeing a lot of bridesmaids in black dresses here in Southern California. As a vendor, I always wear black - we actually call it "vendor black." I've even been putting my band in black shirts with their tuxedos, because they look sharper that way and the guests can tell them from the groom, groomsmen, waiters and whatever penguins might be hanging around. Seriously, if you'd like to stay in character with all-out sophistication, you might want to a black and white wedding with a live band playing music from the Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers movies, some good champagne and caviar and a light midnight supper following an evening of heavy hors d'oeuvres - topped off by some kind of superb wedding cake (in summer, lemon-filled with fresh strawberries would be nice) - now THAT's a wedding! But, bottom line, it's your wedding and you should do whatever you want to do! Judy

You can't get more classic than black and white. Think about back in the day when our parents got married. There weren't any colors. Everything was just perfectly wonderful in black (Groom's tux) and white (bride's dress). You can't go wrong any time of year!

We shoot many summer weddings where the party is in Black and White. Depending on the style of dress, the girls will sometines have white on top.

    Hi Katie!

As a custom wedding gown designer, I think it's perfectly fine to have a black and white wedding in the summer. Sure, it's hot outside - but it's going to be hot if they are in pink too! So do as you'd like - it's your day.

I always encourage brides to choose any color -- as long as YOU love it!

personally, I had a July wedding with black, white with pink accents. The dresses were gorgeous and the pink flowers really popped against the dresses!

If you want to make the black more summery, then try going with cute cocktail-style dresses for the girls! There are so many to choose from nowadays and "a little black dress" is something any girl will ALWAYS wear again!

Black and white have been very popular wedding colors for the last couple years. The great thing about these colors, is that pretty much any combination of flowers will look great and just as you said, they will stand out! Even with a pink sash, you have a large array of colors to choose from. Best Wishes!

First congrats on your wedding! I just photographed a wedding 2 weekends ago where the girls were in black and with the green from foliage and colors from all around, it just seemed to highlight the girls and it really did as you say 'made the flowers pop'. it's your wedding and should do what you would like. Regardless of the color, summer weddings are hot and the color of the dress is not going to make that much of a difference. I hope all goes well. Holly

I WAS HAVING THE SAME PROMBLEM. I WAS GOING TO DO BLACK DRESSES TOO, BUT WHEN WE DECIDED TO DO A OUTSIDE WEDDING I WENT WITH CORNFLOWER AND CAPRI,BLACK IS NOT A SUMMER COLOR, BUT I THINK YOU COULD STILL MAKE IT WORK, THE SASH WILL GIVE YOU THAT SUMMERTIME FEELING,AND YOU CAN DO THE FLOWERS THE SAME COLOR AS THE SASH,I THINK IT IS A GOOD IDEA,BLACK IS SO ELEGANT, AND YOU CAN MAKE IT WORK WITH SOO MANY OTHER THINGS,IT IS YOUR DAY,I KNOW YOU VALUE ALL YOUR FRIENDS OPINION, BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY IT IS YOUR WEDDING,AND YOU SHOULD DO WHAT YOU WANT TO DO, IF YOU LOVE IT, I SAY DO IT!!

It's not the color of the dress it the fabric. If your worried about you attendees have them in chiffon instead of satin. Black and white can look very warm and inviting by adding sage or even yellow as an accent color.

Black and White weddings are for anytime,it is very regal and elegant... I am planning my own B&W wedding right now and I am having handmade dresses done for my girls that are going to be black and white....If it's an outdoor wedding then just look at different fabrics...if it's indoors then it does not matter....It's your day and it does not matter what anyone else thinks..you are the one that has to be happy..

Black and white are very elegant colors. I agree with the above posts- I don't think there's ever a wrong color combination, no matter what time of the year, as long as YOU like it.

The favorite wedding I decorated was an ivory/ black color theme. It made the balloons look very elegant also. You can check out my website on here to see the pics!

If you are in the FL area, give me a shout! I'd love to help you out, any way I can!
