Just Said Yes October 2022

Bilingual wedding

Hi everyone. My wedding is a few weeks away now, and I need some ideas on how to incorporate two languages into the reception. While most people speak at least basic level English, my step-dad doesn't speak or understand it at all and I don't want him to feel excluded. Just wondering if anyone has tackled this, and if so, how? Shall I do part of my speech in my other language? Cheat sheets on the guest's plates? Etc! Thanks in advance.

Can you just mention that you will first speak an idea in English and then you will say it in the other language? You would want to say that up front. You could also do that for your FH if prepared beforehand. Just tell people up front what you will be doing.

I went to a wedding where they said everything twice, once in each language. It flowed well and wasn't confusing.

It also might be possible to have a bilingual DJ or guest host who could do some announcements in your stepfather's language. This would help increase a sense of inclusion in the reception.
