Bilingual Wedding website

Laura, on March 11, 2021 at 11:13 AM Posted in Planning 2 8

Hi - most of my family is coming from outside of the US for our wedding and they only speak Spanish. I want to provide all the information they need online so they can easily find hotels, things to in the city, etc.. as well as RSVP without having to worry about postage to the US. Here are the options we have right now, wondering if anyone has had any experience or ideas. Thanks so much in advance!

Option 1. Use free websites like the knot, zola, etc. and have a section/tab with information in Spanish. Pros: free, easy. Cons: I would have to fit everything under one tab and the instructions for RSVP's would still be in English. We could also have a translated paragraph under each section but I don't know, that might look weird.

Option 2. Using a bilingual template. Pros: Guests can select their language in the main page and see the entire site in their preferred language. Easy to switch back and forth between languages. Cons: costs $100 plus squarespace subscription. Limited design options.

Option 3. Do it ourselves! Pros: more flexibility for design and customization, cheaper. Cons: we don't have a lot of experience using squarespace or wix, would have to basically learn as we go.

Let me know if you did something similar or how you dealt with your bilingual wedding!

Hi Laura! Most of my family is coming from out of the country and they all speak Spanish, my fiancé's family is also Hispanic. So we decided to put both English and Spanish on our website.

I like the idea of being able to choose the language you want, but I wouldn't pay $100 bucks for that, a wedding is already pretty expensive.. That's up to you guys! We made our website through here (WeddingWire) which I really liked, it was very easy to customize and make it just how we like it. You can change colors, fonts, you can add pictures etc. What we did was simply write all the info in English first and then right under translate it all to Spanish. And we did that for all the different pages of the website (Registry, pictures, RSVP, information....) here's a screenshot of our RSVP page so you can have as an Example.

Ugh, I understand! I'm trying to figure this out too. I want the website to be all in Spanish with only a tab for English with the info lumped in there, lol. I'm still exploring the websites but yeah, I don't like that I can't change the heading of the pages from English to Spanish. It is truly frustrating! When I googled for answers, I saw posts from 2011 of people dealing with this same issue! 🙄

If you're talking about the website through WeddingWire, you can actually change the headings of the pages and make them in Spanish. We just decided to leave them in English! You can also add another page if you want! All you would have to do is "Edit" then go to "Pages" then change the headings in Spanish and add a new one and maybe name the heading "Info in English". I hope that helped, but you keep looking for whatever seems easier for you Smiley smile

Thank you! I will need to keep playing around with WeddingWire then. I gave up after I couldn't position the pictures the way I wanted to so I didn't even try to add any info. Then TheKnot wouldn't allow me to change the headings (at least thru the app). Off I go!!

I know! I was surprised I couldn't find more info online. Seems like something a lot brides would want and the options are so limited. We're looking into doing it ourselves through Squarespace. MY FH knows a bit about coding and stuff so we might be able to figure it out. I'll update the thread if we can find a way!

Yes, please post when you can! It sucks that I basically have to rewrite everything in Spanish. I've been finding that to be the same with invitations. You can write them yourself in Spanish but there aren't many example of invitation templates already in Spanish except on Etsy. Luckily I have a cousin that is getting married in July (mine is in October) so I might ask him to send me pictures of everything so I can copy it 😂

After trying a couple different websites and hitting challenges with customizability (like someone noted, The Knot doesn't allow you to change everything), we finally decided to create two different websites.
