Better Venue or Better Food?

Erica , on July 6, 2018 at 12:41 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 16
We have narrowed our search to two places. We have decided to take two days and not discuss it all day long (haha it’s all I talk about with him) and have a coffee date Sunday and make a decision- both places are on hold for us.. Both are restaurants with banquet rooms.

Option 1- Close to home (important because I have four kids to get ready). Huge room and great layout. Food is good. Definitely designed for weddings. Would need some decorating.

Option 2- Very pretty space and would not need much decorating. Amazing food. Venue itself is on the smaller side and the layout isn’t as nice as the first venue. I attended a wedding there before and it was a little cramped.

So which is more important to you- food or venue space?

We are spending more on our food than venue, but we still love our venue. I think people really notice the quality of food!

Without seeing both venues or knowing how many guests they hold versus how many you plan on having it is hard to give advice. What I can say is people definitely remember if the food is bad. So if both have good food but one is slightly better then I’d go for the better layout. But If the food at the nice layout isn’t good at all then I’d go for the amazing food! Hope that helps!

They are both indoor. First one holds up to 150 seater and the second 100 seated. We are planning on about 75-80.

Hi Erica! Welcome to WeddingWire and congrats on your engagement! Smiley heart

It's really up to you both, what you value more and if one you can envision yourself getting married in over the other Smiley smile

Option two, with the great food and minimal decorating needed seems like it will be easier on you. However option one also is convenient being close to home and a bigger layout, like you described.

Are you worried about it being cramped? How big is your guest list?

Hmm... the first one is definitely more spacious then but the second one should technically still be good since you're not at capacity...

How are you planning to decorate, if you went with the first one? If decorating is a point of stress or worry, the second might be more convenient from that perspective & the food being amazing is a plus.

I would choose option 2 unless there is something you really dislike about the 2nd venue. If it seats 100 and you are planning on 75-80, then it shouldn't be cramped. Do you have pics of both places you can share?

The food was definitely more important than the venue to us. We are major foodies. the venue is nice but people will remember the food more.

I'm a firm believer in getting more bang for your buck out of the venue space. Decorations can add up fast price wise. So go with the nicer venue. And it has amazing food? Win win! And how you do the table layout might make a difference in how "cramped" it feels. Also, you may have less attendees than the last wedding you saw there, so don't get too bogged down by that. It sounds like a winner!

I say go with option 2. People remember the food more, it is big enough for your guest list, is pretty and doesn't need much in decorations.

We are spending much more on food than venue but if the layout is more important and the location I'd lean more towards option 1.

Good food is awesome and if the first place has good food but its more comfortable for people and I'd do that. I love to eat but I love to feel comfortable more. It sounds like both options would work though.

We also chose the better variety/quality of food over the little nicer venue. ☺️ We felt that people would remember the food more versus what kind of decorations were put up. My family has always been that way, though and as long as their stomachs are full, they’re happy hahaha.

I would choose option #2 as it definitely fits the number of guests you'll have and the food is amazing and you'd need less decor.
