BEST WAY TO LET GUESTS KNOW THIS IS AN ADULTS ONLY RECEPTION???

sharay, on May 2, 2017 at 3:54 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18

Hi all,

So my wedding date is 7/9/17. I just received my invitations and started sending them out. me and FH have a wedding website where we are asking ones to rsvp, view registry, pics, etc. Our families have a lot of children and we did not want to have children at the reception/ceremony. My SIL has 4 kids and we were going to allow her children to come as it is immediate family and one of the kids has a role in the wedding. I want to make sure there is no confusion or questioning as to if a guests kids are included. I have written the names of the guests on the rsvp card but I was thinking if I should post it up on the wedding website? Would this be tacky/rude? If so, what are some other alternatives to getting the message out there in a kind way? PLEASE HELP!

Not yelling would be awesome. Also, addressing the invites only to who is invited by name.

You could address invites and RSVP cards only to those invited or add 18+ or 21+ only on the bottom

What we did was put it on the invitation 'although we love to see your kids laugh and play, this is an adults only kind of day', and throughout the process when I would see people out I would mention it also. I have nieces and nephews that will be there because they are in the wedding party also, and at first I started to feel bad that my friends/family members couldn't bring their kids but then I realized what kind of reception it would be and they deserve a night off Smiley smile

I'd just call them and yell at them, " NO CHILDREN ARE ALLOWED AT OUR WEDDING"

    That should do it.

Invite, by name, the people you want there. What Mrs. Smith did is very rude, honestly. You never, never put it on the invite. Ever.

Every invite goes to the adults you want to have there. If anyone adds kids, be prepared to tell them you cannot accommodate children.

I just put it on the wedding website. They should get the hint when it is only addressed to them.

If they RSVP with kids, call them and let them know

Faqs on the wedding website. Also word of mouth in families works great - have the mom/FMIL/other close family member pass it around and it should be fine

Who is not invited should never be on the invite.

I think the wedding website would be fine and word of mouth, as well.

An FAQ on the wedding website can help. Specifying the # of seats on the RSVP card will also help. But you will probably get some people that RSVP for their kids no matter what you do. Just be prepared to call those people and let them know that unfortunately you can't accommodate their kids.

Well you could yell at them, that's sure to work.

See normally i would have said just address the invites to the adults but having just done this and having a guest RSVP for their toddler and then get shitty she wasn't informed earlier, I would go the route of having adults only on the website. Etiquette be damned in this instance, some guests just don't get it that if the invite is only addrsssed to the couple and not the family then children aren't invited.

On the invite, write Mr and Mrs Smith, NOT the Smith family.

On the RSVP card, you can either write 2 seats have been reserved for you, or my cousin wrote the actual names, in an attempt to make it clear that invites were not transferable.

In any event, accept that people will write in additional names. You will need to call them and say very sorry if not clear (which is total BS, invites were clear), but only you and the Mr were invited, we hope you can come, will miss you if you cannot.

Make certain, in advance, that your FH, mom, FMIL, MOH are all on board. Make certain they know no kids.

    Good luck.

Send the invitation to who is invited. You don't want to say who isn't invited.

We are writing __ of ___ attending on the invite. We will prefill the second part for how many people we are inviting so some family don't think they can bring all 5 kids.

Thanks again. I already sent some invited out so I will go with word of mouth and on the site. Along with adding the number on the RSVP card. I've already wrote in the names...i see this is where things can become sticky. I have family traveling over an hour and i don't want to be put on the spot with unexpected guests or having someone return home for not paying attention!

What do you mean "some" invitations have already been sent? You need to send them all at the same time to avoid the appearance of B-listing.

On our website I wrote "The blah blah blah is a historical site and therefor, at their request, we regretfully cannot accommodate small children." (Not true but...seemed like the easiest way out.)

You might want to consider having a reminder about the no kids wedding before the big day and maybe even suggest childcare options
