Best Way To Do Place Cards?

Becoming a Mrs, on February 11, 2016 at 10:46 AM Posted in Planning 0 21

How is everyone doing their place cards? At first I was thinking about writing them on a recycled rustic-y window but I know I will drive myself nuts because I won't be able to make it look "perfect" (Im really anal about things like that). So I figured I would just do place cards and type them out. I've looked on etsy and have found some cute ones. Is there anywhere else to look? I know I still have a lot of time, but I can never sit still and have down time when it comes to planning! lol

Also does everyone get an individual one or do I include couples on the same one?

Minted has some really cute place cards and they will print them with names for you. That can be a bit pricey (in my opinion, but I'm frugal). Avery has some nice templates where you can either buy the cards and print at home or they print them for you. That's what I'm using and them I'm tying them to a starfish. I think I'll be putting couples on one to save money.

I would have to agree after checking them out spending $100 on cards seems crazy! When I can spend $9 on etsy for the temp. especially if I want to do last minute changes lol

I originally thought of doing drink flags that doubled as place cards. But the more I think of it the more it seems like a logistical nightmare.

Mine are small slices of wood that I'm burning the names onto. If you want to type them I agree wiht Becoming a Mrs that an Etsy template is the way to go. My friend did this a few months ago and they looked really cute & the colors matched her theme perfectly!!

You can sorta see mine in the top pic. I ordered a template off of Etsy (about $6?) and used the design for invite inserts and escort cards. I had wrote the escort cards for various reasons like, I didn't care anymore, and in the event some people were added/declined last minute and I wouldn't have access to print out new typed ones.

@Christine that is gorgeous! That is exactly what I would have wanted mine to turn out if I went that route!

I believe each individual guest get their own place card.

We DIY'ed tented place cards on word - will have first and last name of guest.

Don't quote me on etiquette LOL but this is my understanding:

Place cards are individual cards that are set on the table at each place setting - it's helpful to indicate menu choice (meat, vegetarian, vegan, child, etc).

Escort cards are the cards placed in the foyer/lobby that have the names and table number. If this is what you are doing, then the card matches the invitation - so it can be one per couple.

We will be doing escort cards that people will take to their table because the caterer needs to know their meal preference. I really don't want to assign seats, but may choose to do so. We are going to incorporate something tennis themed for the escort cards because that is how FH and I met and we want to have a little nod to it somewhere!

ETA: If you are having meal options, many caterers require that you have a place card/escort card with some kind of way to distinguish the meal.

OMG future Mrs. and Mr. is a great idea for couples getting married soon! I'll have to remember that one. We'll probably do couples together on one card. I'm going to get them printed from minted and they match my minted website. It is more expensive, not the most budget friendly option. I haven't decided yet if I will attach them to mini succulents (not sure I will complete this DIY, and need to talk to venue coordinator about logistics of using plants), or just get simple tented cards.

I'll have to ask my venue if they need them to know the menu choice. My venue me has me using a program indicating names and the tbsle they are sitting at with their meal choice. So I'm assuming that how hey are doing it I know they won't know it directly by the seat but will at least have a general knowledge that their are 5 chickens and 2 beefs at a certain table.

E&M is correct about the difference between place cards and escort cards. You can do a seating chart with place cards - if you want to specify which seat each guest will be sitting at. This only matters if there are meal choices to be determined for each guest. The seating chart would tell them what table to locate, then the place card indicates their seat at that table.

Escort cards can be used instead, which simply list the guests names and their table, where they will choose their own seats. You can do them per couple or family - and they are placed at the entrance for the guests to pick up and carry (escort) to their seat.

I hate that there is so many different names. Whenever I looked for "escort cards" I would get a few options. But when looking for "place cards" I would get thousands and it just included names and table numbers! So annoying lol
