Best way to do implement this wine idea?

Brianna, on October 29, 2019 at 12:45 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 12
We are getting married on December 29, 2019 and I have an idea that I LOVE...but I’m not sure how to implement it.

On a wine tasting weekend one of the winery employees told us about an alternative to a candle ceremony or sand mixing ceremony- buy a good bottle of wine and a wooden box, then nail it shut together at the ceremony and promise to drink it at a certain date (like a time capsule, but with wine!). I loved the idea so much we expanded it...we bought 2 identical bottles of a good wine- one to drink on our wedding night and one for our 5 year anniversary.

Then I set out to shop for a box...and they are all clap-close style. Turns out “wooden wine box” is a thing, and they can be monogrammed and made beautiful- but how do you turn closing a clasp into a special wedding ceremony moment?

Sorry about the typo in the title. Home sick and apparently not 100% on it with the typing!

I don't know if there's much you could do for that lol besides putting the bottle in the box and both of you closing the clasp together, there's nothing else I could think of.
Maybe add a personalized letter to the box with the wine? Have each of,you write something for the other one to read when you open it?

We are doing that same thing. We are each writing a letter the night before we get married (3 weeks to go 😯) and sealing it in our wine box. Our box came personalized and has a gold heart lock on it. We plan on opening the box, drinking the wine and reading the letters on our 5th anniversary! Such a great and not to mention different idea!

Could you make the box be the guest book? If it is not big enough for all of the attendees to sign, have your wedding party/family sign with well wishes that you will read when you open the box in 5 years!

What about doing the clasp but with a little lock and key?

Instead of sand or candle ceremony we are doing a wine blending ceremony which i thought was a fun alternative Smiley smile

That sounds like an awesome idea, too!
I think I will go to the craft store to find a small lock. I have been looking for a way to incorporate my nephew, so maybe I will ask him to hold the lock.

Awe that will be adorable!!! or have him put the lock on and you and your FH close it together Smiley love ugh that sounds so awesome.

We wanted to incorporate our kids too but i didn't want the same old sand ceremony everyone is doing. so we opted out - i'm not sure if i'll regret that. Smiley amazing

This is a cute idea!! Wine boxes are definitely a thing, I've seen them all over the place (just as decoration they're cute). You would incorporate it into the ceremony as you would any other unity aspect. Your officiant can explain to your guests what you're doing and what it symbolizes and as they explain it, or afterwards, you and your FH can walk over the wine box, set the wine in the box, and hammer it shut. Maybe you can each hit the nail a few times on your own, then do it together for symbolic reasons. Here's a great article I found!

We are not doing wine, but are doing the time capsule portion. We are putting letters to each other in the box, as well as favorite photos and letters from our immediate family. My FH does construction, so he is making the box. We will open on our 5 yr (wood) anniversary.. or if there is ever a time in which we need to re-kindle from a fight.. we are nailing ours with a custom hammer we had made. We plan to build a house in the next few years, so that hammer will also put the first and last nail in our new home.
